The sound a cannon makes has nothing to do with determining the maximum distance.

Are you going pneumatic, or combustion? Also how big?

My gun is a combustion. The chamber is 14" inches long I believe, of 4" ABS pipe. The barrel is 4' long of 2" pipe.

You could make your barrel longer to quieten it, also it would increase performance.

make a "silencer" for it, just drill some holes at the end of the barrel, as long as you projectile it a perfect fit it should really quiet it down
