Currently I can't build a spud gun, due to the fact that my Lowes doesn't carry 3" pvc and all the abs it has is foam-core..... Where do all you people get you 3" from? just wondering.

I usually just get my pvc at Home Depot, not to expensive and every one i have been to carries most sizes from 1/4" - 4" diameters

Look for a 'Ewings Irrigation Suppy' in your locality, they carry pressure rated stuff up to 10" around here

look for a local plumbing supply store (the one near me is called Salem plumbing supply) they tend to a little bit pricier but they carry just about any type of pipe or fitting

cell core abs is ok for spray and shoot guns, they are more shock resistant

What kind of cannon do you want to build?

For a pneumatic, you want NSF-PW PVC, which many hardware stores don't stock (They only have the DWV stuff, not pressure rated).

For a combustion, the cell-core ABS would probably be fine. I've built two propane-powered combustion guns with cell core ABS with zero failures over several hundred shots. It's definitely safe for hairspray and aerosol fuels, but propane *could* eventually cause problems. I don't worry about it because if ABS does fail, it generally fails with very little or no shrapnel.

As suggested, try plumbing supply and irrigation stores. Also consider asking a construction company where they buy bulk pipe from, etc... until you find a source. Lastly, you can buy it online, but the shipping can be steep. McMaster sells pipe. You could probably get pimpman or bcpneumatics or sgort to ship you pipe.

Peace,
Pete Zaria.

We have a Connor Company plumbing place, which carries Schedule 80 PVC pipe. They don't carry the illusive 1.5in Schedule 21 though.

There are a couple home improvement stores around here that have pressure rated pipe, but indeed, Lowes isn't one of them. Menards and Farm&Fleet do though. No one store carries everything though, so I may go to one store for iron and brass fittings, another for PVC pipe and another for the respective fittings. It burns a lot of gas and time getting everything for spud guns.

Getting the parts is easier than assembling them.....
Look around, go to every store you think they might have it.
That includes all home improvement/DIY-stores or however you call that.

Cell-core is okay for combustions? didn;t have a clue. I am planning on using "Static Guard" for fuel.

Thanks for the tips everybody. :)

Because ABS doesnt have much schrapnel, it "tears/ruptures, but PVC does have schrapnel.
BTW, correct me if im wrong!
