astronomers have found a planet made of diamond, if spudders got their hands on it... could we make a 1000x hybrid?
Assuming one uses the proper grade of steel (I'm still learning metallurgy) then a 1000X hybrid would be achivable.
The problem is the fuel, propane liquifies a bit beyond 200X preignition pressures. Hydrogen would work, but hydrogen embrittlement would be a concern.
I would go with a pure propane/propylene oxygen fueling, the preignition pressures would be reasonable, but DDT could be a concern. Though we used to think that DDT was assured after 4X.

Holy crap, this was posted 3 years ago. Time certainly does fly. Since then, we've had DYI break Larda's velocity record by some margin with WARTL/ETA and a few members here might be capable of 10,000 ft/lbs with their cannons (not sure if my hybrid would be up to it, a new barrel would be needed and something would probably get damaged in the process).
It was only a 5 or 6 years ago that piston valves were a big deal, hybrids were: rare, usually made of PVC, stayed below 4x mixes and used water to aid in fuelling, fridge compressors were pretty much non-existent, 1000 ft/lbs was a big deal and only a few members had broken the sound barrier.
Although it may seem at times that Spudfiles is going down hill in terms of member quality, you can't argue with the fact that quite a few members have pushed the old limits of our hobby and made them the new norms.
...if only Gun Freak wasn't holding us back by refusing to make hybrids
Kidding! maybe
Edit: thread cleaned. Guys, stay on topic.

Im only just starting to look at hybrids and whats achievable is scary but also desirable.
Mind blown.
