I have tried the system a lot and I have not had these problems. The interior of the combustion chamber is always absolutely clean, free of dirt, as in a piston-type combustion engine. It only communicates with the outside, at the moment when the gases leave at high speed and pressure, from the inside out, so it is imperative that something can enter. The o'ring does not burn, as I observed in the experimentation. I use the commons, but I will try to use viton, if necessary. What does damage the o'ring is if the exhaust hole is not very well polished inside the tube. For the rest among all the prototypes that I have built with this system, about 3, and I have fired them countless times, they continue to work correctly :D

Nice design but impossible to do for me, it is more complicated, in practice. The one I propose is simpler and works well. I just have to give a turner the plans to make the two lids and the piston in steel, which are very simple elements. Until now they were epoxy resin, but for 10 -12X, they must be made of bronze or steel to last.
I have tried something similar to this that you tell me.

I have designed a dosing unit for my hybrid weapons with air pump.
It works very well, because it eliminates the action of oppressing the exhaust valve of burnt gases output from the combustion chamber, and the action of loading the combustible gas manually. With this system, it is only necessary to load the ammunition through the bolt system, and pump the air with the manual pump that is incorporated into the weapon.
The 5/2 solenoid valve works with the pressure of the butane gas and not with compressed air. The function of the flow regulator is to limit the amount of gas that escapes through the dispenser outlet orifice and avoid unnecessary waste. The actuator opens and closes the burned gas purge valve. The system to activate or deactivate the electrovalve is the same as that of my semi automatic hybrid. The piston rod of the combustion chamber moves a switch immediately after firing. The solenoid valve remains in the "activated" state for 1 second and then returns to the "deactivated" state. This is achieved with a timer equal to that of my semi-automatic hybrid.
I will include this technique in the hybrid IV, the HA-IV, which is what I plan to build.
In the diagram is the functioning of the system, which is very simple indeed.
I thought that the solenoid valve could fail when working with butane, instead of air, but I have not had any problem with this topic. You only have to regulate the gas pressure at least 1.2 bar, so that it works, because it is an assisted solenoid valve.
