Holy Jebus, I'm stunned, I wouldn't have had that down as possible. Backstops worldwide are quaking.

I'm going to have to make a APDSFS round and try shooting a hole through the 6mm plate I have around.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

Up the mix!
Try for 1/4"!
:D

But really, I think you could probably do 10x with such a small chamber. I wouldn't hold it though.

Both of my Hybrids ARE hand held! Can't quit beat the adrenalin rush.
Thanks for the comments guys!

I'm more then happy to wait 2 weeks for videos,if anything it will give more time for you to plan out some awesome shots. . .Ballistics gel cough cough. . .

Could you possibly do some more shots at polycarbonate sheets? It's always interesting to see that tough stuff punctured.

Hey duelers, i will be a total newbie to making vids so don't expect miracles  I'll do the gel for you when i can.
As for the polycarb you have to hit it dead on for penetration, not as easy as it sounds. I will include some footage of said actions though.
Any other things people may like to see blasted? Check out my new Tungsten Carbide penetrator http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/viewtop ... tml#136825

So how long now till we see the carnage of the new penetrator? Also are you thinking of adding a way of measuring the chamber pressure?Such as a check valve and a gauge and I would like to know the maximum pressure created.

It will be around 1 week from now till i start to take any footage (i have yet to purchase a recorder) The new shiny penetrator will be fired from my large Hybrid at a 4x mix. I will most probably fire at 5mm steel with another piece behind, just incase i get lucky! (point blank)

I have access to a 800psi Glycerine filled gauge but am yet to find a decent checkvalve so that could take a while longer :)
Any idea if the Glycerine filled gauge will respond quick enough? Moving through the viscious liquid could slow it down a tad i thought. :?

Edit: I managed to pierce 3 coins with the bruiser today, with one shot!

An plans for a longer barrel and bigger chamber, to give those NASA test cannon a run for their money? :D

A longer barrel would be nice, it needs to be around twice the current length.
Bugger giving them a run for their money, i'll just shoot down a couple of their rockets with the bruiser

Is there some way you can graft on an extension? If you double it the performance increase should be significant.

And it should also be a bit quieter wiht the longer barrel.

If anything the glycerine should save the gauge from damage due, because with that quick burst of energy it can send a non glycerine filled gauge needle flying way past its intended pressure range and ruin the fine inner working of it..Well that my view of it.

You could use a compression testing gauge that is used on an engine,as they are designed to handle and test the pressure in short sharp bursts and they also retain the maximum pressure achieved, which is all thumbs up for a hybrid :thumbright:

A friend of mine suggested using a compression tester but i thought that since my chamber is so small (47mls) the tester would be too large in it's capacity, any ideas on that? Or should i just go with a gauge and checkvalve? When i test for pressure spikes i will seal the chamber all together. I kind of did that the other day when i applied to many layers of tape (for the burst disc).
Where can i find similar tests (if they have been done before) Fnord comes to mind but i can't remember if he tested for maximum pressure achieved during combustion.

Edit: JSR, yes i plan on grafting on a longer barrel, i have to go purchase my cheapo digicam tomorrow so i'll have a look for a suitible extension.

Ahh yes true about the compression tester and the small chamber size,I guess going with the check valve and gauge would be the next best thing, maybe add a ball valve or some other way to release the pressure after a shot aswell.

Sealing the chamber and testing the pressure created would be great!Do a number of tests and record the pressures created on different mixes and multiple times so you can get some good reliable data for hybrid chamber pressures.

Sealed chamber pressures have been done, upto 11x mix I think but I don't think the chamber pressure was measured But at 11x there is going to some serious pressures being created!

I am not sure that my tests will exceed 8x, i value my blood :P
