It's been over a decade since I first made this project and almost as long since I dabbled in hybrids so here is a recent project along the same lines:
Nothing particularly special about the design, chamber volume is around 34cc and it's currently fitted with a 490mm long 6mm barrel, construction is steel and aluminum.
I'm using aluminum from the side of a beer can as a burst disk, using air only they burst just below 1500 psi
Here is what it looks like internally, if it seems a little unusual that's because it's actually part of another project that I will share at a later date:

At 19x using butane it will happily push 0.25 gram airsoft BBs at over twice the speed of sound
The goggles, they do nothing!
Biodegradable BBs are fragile but at these speeds the penetration is impressive, right through the goggles and the polystyrene head and into the backstop behind it. I added a pellet tin and it still blew through as if it wasn't there:

Cryptic as always. Does it have to do with cartridges?
Thanks! It's sort-of related with cartridges in that I mated it with the cartridge from the fl(air) gun to make a dual chamber testbed, lots of data generated with that one so it will take some time to compile.

I made a 0.177" barrel attachment for this thing, at a 20x mix it was pushing 0.35 gram BBs to just over 1800 feet per second that's 39 ft lbs of energy!
The same barrel hooked up directly to the air cartridge at 2500 psi yielded 1143 fps, still impressive but only 16 ft lbs, less than half the energy.
When it comes to sheer power, hybrids will deliver it better than pneumatics and with less complexity.

That flash on the first objective was great. Good job and an inspiration to many, for sure.
I am compiling these new tests with the pure hybrid, in "Jack's Bible"
Hmmmn just when I thought I had no interest in hybrids
For sheer power there really is no comparison with pneumatics, even with thousands of psi of air and fast valves you will struggle to get the same results.

Yes it's like the difference between an Otto cycle engine and... an air engine

I decided that the low-mix hybrid is the most efficient and easiest way to get a good, powerful, full-sized cannon. Insquirt propane as usual, pump a little air and BAM!
