i thought it was to get of more "rounds per second/minute" as more with more barrels you can fire slightly more without clogging up one barrel

just my $0.02

edit:woah put $0.20c that was a close one

I you add more barrels you get a faster rate of fire but then you also need a larger air supply to keep up the FPS.

One of the fastest mini-guns only has 3 barrells, but there are many designs.

Here is a gun I wish I could take apart.

This pneumatic gun fires .177 B-B's. Powered by compressed air at 85 to 130 PSI, it fires 800 to 1000 rounds per minute. The gravity-fed drum magazine holds about 3000 rounds. At 125 PSI it has an effective range of 100 feet where it is capable of holding a very tight grouping.

Nice!! I wanted that kit so bad!! Did you get it at Cabela's. They have a $400 kit (not including 2 Ruger 10/22s)

Damn gun laws...

No it is being made from scratch. I bought the plans, about 75 lbs. of brass and steel. Firing pins, Springs, Rifled barrell liners, pins and nuts and bolts. Hundreds of dollars worth of tooling for the lathe and mill. I did not have a rotary table so I had to buy that too.

There is another reason. real miniguns have an extremely high RoF. each barrel rotates activating some sort of a angled wheel, on which one the percution pin is attached with a spring. that creates a continuous "hit, goes back" of the pin allowing for ultra high passage of the ammo.

Making a cloud minigun is lost time. the reason is, the bb get's sucked in the barrel in front of the hole, but with a cloud machine gun, there are a lot of bb's loaded at a time, so, imagine your barrel is 40" long, a bb travelling at 500 fps will go down the barrel in 12.5 ms . your motor turns at 60rpm or 1 rps , with six barrels, that allows 16.7 ms of continue air stream per barrel. a cloud has a fire rate of 80-100 rps, that makes a time between two bb's of 1.5 ms .
Finaly, you can estimate 8 bb's to fire from each barrel when it comes in front of the hole. considering the first 2 and the last 2 bb's will go like sh*t because of the little flow, you will get 4 bb's shot great each 16.7 ms......that is very low for a cloud machine gun.
just try to make a great cloud bbmg, with six barrels in-line and spin them.
you will get a killer accuracy, a killer ROF, a killer look if you make it right, and you could make Über-cool destruction pics :D

Most newer mini guns do not have firing pins, they are fired using electricity. The firing pins cannot be cocked and dropped fast enough to keep up with the rotating speed.
