In a vortex block, isn't a lot of air lost into the chamber that holds the ammo? How does it work?

Naturally, a certain quantity of air does go to pressurising what I'll call the magazine (for the purposes of this).

It's therefore advisable to keep the magazine no larger than it has to be. However, the air used is a moderately trivial quantity as compared to the volume used in simply firing - the vortex is better than the cloud, but still rather inefficient in how much air it uses.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

One way of improving the efficiency is to add a detent seal which temportarily blocks the BB in the breech, allowing pressure to build up behind it before it pops out.
