Electric Airsoft Gun Idea

For all the aussies who want a portable electric airsoft gun i thought of this idea, i'm not sure how powerful or how reliable it is, but i think it's a simple way to make an EAG.
I think it'll be simple but there are a whole punch of problems listed in that picture, read the stuff from there. Though since i'm from Aussielands i'm going to be using arts and craft beads XS

Its the same way a tennis ball machine works.
This would work. Another member did something similar to shoot pennies. It is basically a small pitching machine (as in baseball).
Problem number 1: You mentioned a dowel to push one bb at a time. I think this needs to be re-evaluated. It will eat away at the rubber on your wheels and I'm not even sure it would work.
Problem number2: Assuming the wheels will begin to turn when you press the trigger, the bb is going to be projected by the initial movement and not the full speed of the wheels.
If you eliminate the dowel and decide to go full-auto, it should work nicely. Can't wait to see it

Well i think in the case where the dowel pushes one bb at the time, i think i would flick the trigger so the bb will flick into the spinning discs. and as the diagram states, the wheels will always be spinning, just turn it off when there aren't any enemy around.hubb017 wrote: Problem number 1: You mentioned a dowel to push one bb at a time. Maybe you could connect the dowel just above the wheels and rig it up to the trigger. You pull the trigger, the dowel moves back, allowing BBs to fall into the wheels. Release the trigger and the dowel returns to normal.
As far as the other way, I understand it now. I thought you were going to have the dowel going between the wheels.

OMG! right when I saw the design I freked out. I've done this before! I can help a lot. It's a flywheel gun. For one it is entirely feasable. I don't have pics. I've long since dismantled it. It is better to have one motor on top of another motor. Have the bottom motor spin faster than the top to add back spin. I'll walk you through it. First the ammo on mine was fed via gravity hopper which just dimped bb's into the wheels. The wheels themselves where made of the foam wheels you find on hotwheels launchers. The motors are big though. They have to be to get playable performance. The top motor was a 31 turn titan 550 motor for the Traxxas E-Maxx RC car. The bottom motor was a Trinity Monster of Touring 15 turn double aftermarket RC car motor. They were both connected in parallel to a mechanical speed control designed for the Traxxas Bandit RC car. The speed control was connected to a 7.2V, 3000 mA Sanyo racing battery. All of this was bundled up into a wooden frame and performed very well. The catch is, all the things I used I already had lying around. Buying all of this stuff would be pretty expensive. Maybe $110 new. But as far as the design goes. It is the mechanical version of a vortex gun. So build it if you can. If built using my specs it will out perform most commercially bought airsoft guns.

Problem: if you use two motors, there is no way to guarantee they will be spinning at the same speed. If one is spinning faster than the other, your gun will shoot sideways.
The recomendation of putting the wheels over/under is a good one. I think commerical ball throwers are made that way.
I see you are planning to use RC airplane motors, based on the RC airplane i once had, those go very very fast with significant force. You should be able to get some velocity out of this design. I would say it is fairly complicated, but if you want to try it go for it. Half the fun is in trying, wether it works or not.

I think it's a great idea, I think that your design would have plenty of power and a fairly high rate of fire, which could be controlled very easily. If you do attempt to make a gun like this, I would have the spinning discs above/below each other as apposed to left/right from each other so that the gun will shoot straight. You could also check out those baseball pitching machines and maybe get a few design ideas from them. Another thing that you should consider is that if you use r/c plane motors for this thing, it's not gonna be very quiet.
It's hard to soar with eagles when you're working with turkeys.

Problem: Though in wargames i would only turn the thing on when i'm in a shoot out. And there's one big problem i think is that the motor will over heat. And if I wanted to sneak up on someone, I'm developing a BB glove gun repeater, and that's silent until u shoot it.
The only problem which lays here is of the quality of the RC motor.

I don't think you'd have much performance and it would be tricky to set up. An easier pure electric gun would be a centrifugal design like the PEST.

Well, jack. I for one think it will work. Just use big cushy wheels that have less space between them than the width of your ammo, and make them stacked over the top of each other. I have seen pitching machines accurately firing at 100mph using the same concept, so I think you are fine.

100mph is less than 150 feet per second, that isn't exactly good power for an airsoft gun. I'm just saying that if it works on a larger scale, I can't see how it wouldn't work on a smaller scale, but with faster speeds. And, I was a little frustrated with JSR being a downer.
