I am in the process of making a direct feed BBMG. The base for the mechanism is a metal M4 hopup unit that feeds into a 6.05mm barrel that is 363mm long. The bottom of the hopup is connected to the ammo feed hose which is a 1/4 ID high pressure braided hose. The rear nozzle is a 5/16th nipple with 1/4th MPT on the rear. The nipple was cut down to 9mm in length so as not to interfere with the ammo feed and was turned down to 7.8mm to fit the air nozzle hole very snugly. It will be powered using regulated CO2 from a Kobalt regulator and actuated using a 1/4 inch 12vdc solenoid valve. the unit will be placed inside of a 6 barrel Gattling type gun with rotating barrels.

Pictures when I figure out why I keep getting the file empty error

Interesting, does the mechanism look anthing like this?

Make sure your pictures are either .gif or .jpg format and less than 350kb otherwise attachment will not be allowed.

kuba t1000 is working on a new prototype... only that this time it has to have rotating barrels.. I tried to convince him to use a solenoid valve but for some reason he preferred to use 6 valves - one for each barrel....

anyway, defienatally david's idea wasn't tested thoroughly ... but it is great

I actually got the dimensions from that site, but I do not have the ability to machine to that quality so I am just using it as a base.

My mechanism is similar to that but it uses easy to find and make parts.

I will be working on the box magazine while I wait for my valve to get here.

Looks like it will work well, good luck :)

Personally I'd want the rotating barrels functional if I was going to bother with them, and really there's no reason why you couldn't have them replacing the single barrel, the barrel disc would block the flow and keep a BB stuck in the hopup until a barrel was exposed and the cycle can continue, removing the need for separate or pulsing valves.

I was planning on making the rotating barrels decorative and running the actual barrel out the center, less cool but it will still have a shock factor.

You'll be using this for skirmishing then? Might want to turn the pressure down, rate of fire will likely be quite high and if you're shooting at people, keep the jackhammer effect in mind ;)

Yes, It will be a fielded weapon, I will be using .12g or .2g and I have several choices for barrel length so overall velocity can be controlled by length as well as pressure.

What would you recommend for a loading mechanism? I would like to keep a large amount of bbs loaded. I was originally planning on using a modified hi-cap magazine but I am trying to come up with different ideas.

Thanks for the interest and the hints,

Just coil a bunch of the tube in a box mag. I thought that was what you were doing anyway. Nothing will be more efficient than coiling it up in an organised way in a box.

EDIT I see the air inlet is not from the mag tube but from the side... Make a box mag with coiled tube and make an attachment to the tube so the air source is from behind the bbs in the tube.

I was trying to come up with a better way of doing it than just coiling them but that is the simplest. Should I t the air supply off the valve then? I could run a T off the solenoid valve and run part of it to the Air inlet on the hopup and then run the other side to the bb feed with a ball valve so I can adjust the feed rate.

Could I use a large reservoir at the end of the BB feed hose to hold a much larger number of bbs, and just pressure the entire cylinder up and have that feed into the BB feed hose?

If your tubing has enough blowby really you can just feed air and BBs through the same tube without having a separate air feed into the hopup unit.

That's a really interesting thought-perhaps the mag could literally be a cloud bbmg. The barrel outlet could go straight up into the hopup chamber. You could fit 2000 rounds into a decent size cloud chamber and run it that way.

Technically it could work like the LARC M-19.

For ultimate efficiency, as a trigger you can substitute the solenoid with a ball valve (big enough to let the BBs through) at the breech along these lines.

I'd feed air through both the magazine and the air inlet, both increasing feeding reliability and providing a more direct air flow for increased efficiency.

I've got an upcoming project which will be along these lines

I got my solenoid in the mail today and it looks nice, I should make it by the hardware store tomorrow to get the stuff to finish the mechanism. Hopefully I will be able to fire it in base form this weekend... The Pictures are of the Mechanism with the Solenoid on in the way that I had planned on running it but I have decided to change that up. I will run the air into the solenoid using an air chuck, it will then exit and be split into 2 lines using a T. From there each line will be sent through a ball valve to control airflow to the feed side and the launch (pressure) side. The bb feed will be a modified cloud system that feeds into a line that dumps into the bottom of the Hopup. The other side of the T will feed into the rear and dump the pressure into the barrel. This system will let me control feed rate and overall velocity simply by turning 2 valves.
