So I am looking to do a portable strafer project, and am in need of a regulator. On a previous project I used one of the Cobalt rigs, but for some reason the pressure would drop drastically after a second or two of firing, so I dont think Im going to use one of those again.
Does anyone have any ideas for a reg I could use that can get up to 100-120 PSI and consistently fire without any weird pressure drop? (Obviously not ridiculously long bursts to avoid cooldown issues, but longer than one second.)

I think the pressure drop may just be the result CO<sub>2</sub> boiling off and cooling rapidly as you described. The only way to avoid that is to just use a bigger tank, or cut the flow down(If you intend to use this for airsoft you won't need much power).
You could also try putting a small gas expansion chamber between the tank and reg; just use some 1" steel pipe/fittings.
BBMGs use huge amounts of air, and that's all there is to it. It probably isn't the reg, and if it was you'd notice the low-flow problem instantly.

Oh alright, is that how people generally get more consistent ROFs? Im thinking more along the lines of neospuds UI when it comes to ROF consistency:
That thing will give you everything you are looking for; pressure rating, decent expansion, etc.
Would it work on a non-paintball CO2 tank?

It should work as long as it is about the same pressure and has the right connection threads.

The one linked has 1/8" NPT input and output. That means that all you gotta do is make your tank threads into 1/8" threads and you're good. Shouldn't be too hard to do. Of course, you could also browse around the Palmer's site and see if there is already a setup you could use.
