Hi, I'm new to this forum. I've been wanting to build some homemade airsoft guns for a few years now, but all of my designs either didn't work as planned or simply never left the drawing board.

If anyone would be willing to help me with designs or advice, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Nothing fancy; For now, I just need a single-shot, spring-powered carbine, shooting 300 - 350 FPS, with decent accuracy, and with the following qualities:

- Cheap: I have very little money to spare, so this must be as inexpensive as possible (Less than $50).

- Simple: I need to be able to build several of these. I also only have basic tools, so the simpler, the better!

- Durable: At least as durable as a typical airsoft gun (won't break if dropped on the ground).

If anyone can help me with this, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

As an airsofter myself, you'll be better off just going to your local airsoft forum (Im from NJ, so i frequent www.airsoftnj.com) and post up a WTB thread for a used sniper rifle.. Most people buy them on whims then sell them cheap.

Well, I just really want to build my own, for the presumed cost-savings as well as the fun and challenge of building them myself. I just need help with designs, because mine either never seemed to work properly for one reason or another, or became too difficult to fabricate.

I dont think you're going to be saving anything.. To buy an aftermarket hopup and barrel is going to be at least 30 dollars, and then you're still going to have to fabricate a stock and mechanism.

spring powered no. for the hassle you need to make one, might as well buy it.

pneumatic is the way to go.

Using cheap ebay parts you can make a powerful semi-auto valve, take a look around the forum.

Really? I thought that a muzzle-loading, spring-powered, pull-back-and-release gun would be extremely simple to make. All you need is a spring, a piston and air-chamber, a barrel and a few other little things, right?

Okay, how about a really simple semi-automatic carbine, using the little 12 gram CO2 cylinders? Acquiring material is not an issue, as I have access to a scrapyard and plenty of hardware stores. It just needs to be as cheap and simple as possible.

You could always buy a sling-shot i guess .... fits all your criteria and cheap!

Personally I think that a spring mechanism can be made to work quite well, a lot of people on this forum underestimate their potential as cheap and simple launchers. For example using only what appears to be scrap and simple tools this was constructed: http://www.instructables.com/id/Homemad ... irsoftgun/ The advantages of spring guns is that most of the time they don't have to be brutally airtight (so they can be a bit scrappy when they are built) and that they are extremely easy to reload as they don't rely on a compressed source of air, or flammable gas.

This is the answer I was hoping for! Ya, I always figured that a spring gun would be very simple to make out of scrap metal and common materials, and they don't need compressed air or any kind of combustibles to work.

I think most people here dismiss spring-guns because of their relatively low power, since most people here want really high-powered stuff. The thing is, I only want low-power (~300 - 350 feet per second) launchers as they are intended for recreational airsoft; My friends and I can't be paying $50 - $100 for each new gun, so we were really hoping that we'd be able to mass-produce something that we could just cobble together out of junk, GLA-style (if you get the reference).

hey there is a good pnematic design for this, does anyone remember the design by a user named Antoni were he made a bolt action hammer valve setup where the barrel would slide and act as the hammer and the valve was built into the cap of a soda bottle, that design was so simple that several members made similar guns
