I followed the PVC Balistics guide for building the sprinker valve cannon, built it all right, but the sprinkler valve won't open. We're getting 27 volts just fine, but the valve won't open. I noticed that on the valve, it says 24 volts AC 60hz, and batteries are most definately DC. How have you guys gotten this to work?
Here is the page I based mine on:

Yeah everything is hooked up right, and the arrows are pointing the right way. The valve just won't open. The valve being AC doesn't matter?
What kind of valve is it? If it's pneumatically modifiable I would do that, it will save you trouble and it's a lot better than electrical
If it's doesn't work because it needs AC, screw the electrical thing, it's way cheaper to make it pneumatic ( about $10 ) than to buy an inverter.

Does the solenoid make a noise when the voltage is applied?
Are your batteries charged?
Maybe your valve is faulty?
Take your battery to a hardware store and try the battery on one of there valves.
Do you have trouble sleeping at night?

i agree with froggy, just go pneumatic. with my first gun i did the electric thing and it was okay but then i accidentally left it on and the batteries died (i know i should have made a momentary on/off button but all i had was one toggle) but still, i started using modified sprinklers and its much better

I had a nice control box before I went pneumatic.
It was all in a prokect enclosure.
It had a switch and a momentary switch.
When the switch was on a Red led switch came on to say that it was armed.
And I could fire it like a rocked launcher.
WHich is hard to do now.
