Ok well i was just sittin here on my comp an i was thinkin about a new portable way to shoot a gun then i thought what if u take a 4 inch by 6 inch pice of pipe put a plug on one end an a clean out plug on the other fill it with vinegar an pour in the baking soda then seal it shake it an let it fill up just an idea.
or u could even use a smaller piece of pipe
portable pneumatic potato gun no co2 or n2 or compressor
It would not be very efficient, not to mention it will make one hell of a mess. You would be better off making a small pneumatic cannon and mount a bike pump on the bottom. You could make a break barrel spring action one like an air rifle or you could just go co2 wize.
Forever dreaming...

If you choose to use baking soda and vinegar, or dry ice, or even hydrogen peroxide and metal make sure you use a safety blow off valve, because any of these reactions are capable of producing more pressure then PVC or even sometime metal pipe can withstand. Also keep in mind that PVC + COLD (Dry Ice) = BAD!

Hydrogen peroxide reacts with any metal, even the highly diluted stuff you can buy at pharmacies will produce a gas when it comes in contact with metal.

not to knock your idea, but its pretty pointless because all of these things can not be regulated to stop at a given level, and are no more portable than any other idea...

God...
I've calculated the case for acetic acid and sodium bicarbonate. It costs about .5$/3L at 100 psi.

HOOH (hydrogen peroxide) costs me about .25$/mole over here (America). And that's at it's cheapest (pool-grade, not medical grade, which is about 1$/mole).
Thus, it costs .5$ or so to fill a 3L chamber to 100 psi. A bit better than a CO2 cartrige, admittedly, but not cheap.
Metal? The only metalic catalists I know of for the decomp. of HOOH are silver and platinum - neither of which are cheap.
Use MnO2... it's pretty effective stuff.
If you can't figure out how to get it, you shouldn't be playing with pure O2 at 100 psi.

Oh, and Brian... mixing R-OHs and clorides doesn't release any fumes.
Perhaps you ment hypoclorates? (which might, although I'm not certain)

http://www.h2o2.com/intro/faq.htmlThe primary factors contributing to H2O2 decomposition include: increasing temperature (2.2 factor increase for each 10 deg-C); increasing pH ( especially at pH > 6-8 ); increasing contamination (especially transition metals such as copper, manganese or iron); and to a lesser degree, exposure to ultraviolet light. In most cases, pH and contamination work in tandem as the dominant factors.
I think that pretty much includes most metals, including both ferrous and non-ferrous.
