i fired a 8mm steel bolt through a 10mm aluminium plate with the hybrid (not complete penetration it was a 5mm piece of the bolt out the other side and the hole was actually threaded by the boltDYI wrote:In the world of spuds today, (Nova fired a hardened steel dart through 5mm plate with less than 200 ft/lbs of KE).
10mm aluminum is a lot easier to shoot through than 6.35mm hardened steel. The point is that I should have ample power to shoot through the steel, I just need the right ammo.

Nice effort DYI, that is the exact result that i got when i first tried(except mine was on a smaller scale) Good luck with your future efforts!

i did some shooting right now. all at 5x.10mm aluminum is a lot easier to shoot through than 6.35mm hardened steel. The point is that I should have ample power to shoot through the steel, I just need the right ammo
all but the shot gun shell was at point blank.
the recoil was so great it moved the gun (heavy) pretty good backwards :- ) this is the best shots i have done. the burst disk bursted on peak i think!
i also got the marble through the two by four at 5x!

I am loving that damage spudfarm Can you give me any details of the bolt that nearly penetrated the plate? It looks as though someone may just pwn a piece of 1/4" plate sooner rather than later

thanks!!
i sharpened the bolt so it is round on the tip (sharp tip just crack of)
it is between 8 and 9mm thick the head is 14mm it weights about 35g and it is 40 mm long.
i almost melted it with a torch and put it in ice water two times.
then i almost melted it with a torch one more time and put it in used motor oil.
so it did not get even a dent on impact it just bent a bit where it was colder under (almost melting)
it also hit almost sideways as you can see

You may be psychic, Nova. The time between that comment, and the first documented incidence of someone scoring a through and through on 6.35mm steel plate with a spudgun was roughly 100 minutes. I'll leave you with this one picture, and give the details on the thread I'm making, because an achievement like this doesn't deserve to be forgotten on the "news" thread. It looks as though someone may just pwn a piece of 1/4" plate sooner rather than later

WOW
now that is amazing. Now im going to go build my own super powerful launcher and try that myself.
in the world of spuds today I got parts to my new ultra pressure pump that I will be making.
I havent made much progress yet but ill give you the specs.
26in by 1/2in type L copper pipe. Piston is going to be a double o ringed epoxy piston, the pump handle is 1/2in pvc and the rod thing that attaches to the piston is a steel rod.
And a question is it okay to use retail check valves in a 500psi application or do you have to make your own?
And spudfarm if you want to recreate that with your hybrid how about an 7x or 8x shot remote ignition of course.
