I am just having a really hard time picturing this happening with a ball valve cannon, then the needle not even bending or the coin being dented.
A long thin object produces a huge amount of force over a small surface area, this is why for example arrows penetrate so deeply for relatively low velocity impacts. Unfortunately I don't have the facilities to "replicate the myth" so to speak, but at least, I gave you the result and that was with a pretty thin, weak needle, I would assume a blowgun dart has similar properties.
10 euro, I thought what a waste, then I realized it was 10 cents.
Yes, I roll my cigarettes from 50 euro notes hehe not *that* dedicated to spudgun science y'know.
I could but it would be equivalent to a needle.Try shooting piano wire through it?

I'll do some proper test tomorrow, but I shot a saboted(sp?) .303 round from my home made paintball gun(DSGR) and it managed to penetrate 3/4 of it which isn't bad for 100psi. I'm gonna try shoot something through besides a needle or a nail.

I called BS on the other thread- don't i feel like a goose now.
This was with a high pressure burst disk pneumatic, but with the launcher in the original video it might well be BS.

I have managed to penetrate two coins with my 12.7mm mini combustion.
A one dollar and ten cent coin. However because the mini is just that i had to use a sharpened 2.5mm diameter "noga" bit. They are made from super tough tool steel.
The ammo didn't go right through but it did produce an entry and "exit" hole, and got stuck in the coin.
Still, pretty cool considering the gun i used- I will try this with my Hybrid after it's reconstructed
I reckon someone should try a toothpick!!

I finally got through mine as well, with my DSGR paintball gun, I wadded a drawing pin in some cotton, I lost the rest of the drawing pin but the pin remains in the coin, I tried to take some pics but its dark here and when I try and take pics too much flash reflects of the coin and same when I tried to take a Pic inside without flash.

If we keep going on like this, perforating currency, the global market is going to be affected
it is possible, after all you can cut steel with water if it's going fast enough, but I don't think anyone here has the resources to fling a toothpick that fast

Damn, I wasn't sure about the other topic, but now, with this evidence in front of me, I'm impressed.
If I had time on my hands, I'd try going through a 2p coin, but time is not friendly at the moment with everything coming up.
Now someone just needs to add these results to the overall Mythspudding answers:
Can you shoot through a coin? Apparently, yes. Myth confirmed.
Did the original source get through with his BV cannon? Unknown. Myth plausible, based on the fact that the sabot in a higher bore could have supplied enough energy to do it.

frankrede: Well then I guess it won't matter when you decide to drink bleach because your out of kool-aid.
...I'm sorry, but that made my year.

Hum...
The oversized pin I used must have been weaker than I thought. I'll try using a darning needle and hardened steel nail.
