explosive ammo thats not pyrotechnic
I guess I should've mention that I created and use them for practical purposes, my daughter heats with wood, and on our farm we have lots of old cedar stumps that also need removed, so developed them as a safer alternative to "ye olde powder wedge"...Carlman wrote:dont even mention that mate, it just brings a bad image onto yourselfjeepkahn wrote:I won't discuss this rule breaking topic in the forums, but if you want to know how to make real "not to be discussed type of ammo", pm me...
a teaser for you, it'll cut a 12" diameter pine tree in half...
I was wondering, would i be allowed to post a kind of chemical reaction? Its not a high explosive, but more like a magnesium flare going off. It uses water to trigger =)

No more thread hijacking either!
Incendiary ammo is not allowed. So if it uses fire in any part of the reaction, then you cant.

I don't even know why this thread isn't locked yet. Not only is this discussion riding a damn thin edge on the 'explosives' rule, from the sound of things this 'ammo' seems overtly hazardous to make in the first place.

Everything being "projected" from any kind of launcher is dangerous. The original content of this thread is sketchy, but not against the rules.
I already answered rp181's question, no need for anymore harping about it.

Ok, my design would work. The weight of the piston rod is small compared to the ammo "body". when it accelerates in the barrel, the pressure inside the ammo would be enough to let the rod get back to its pre-shot state.
here's a drawing :
Ammo is shot, flies, hits a target; gaz is compressed to auto-ignition point, making the ammo explode. No solid explosives, no more dangerous than any combustion cannon before shooting...i'll try this weekend

That would count as explosive ammunition (Solid propellant: Any substance containing all the chemical elements required to enable sustained combustion without the presence of additional oxidizers. This includes but is not limited to gunpowder, thermite, and many commercial and/or homemade pyrotechnic compounds. ) and therefore against the discussion rules of this forum. Note that the title of this thread refers to non-pyrotechnic ammunition.vblock wrote:how about takin a shotgun primer puttin it into a simaler size tube filler with bp seal it and put a marble on the primer with some glue ? get the id?

Just stumbled upon this while looking through the how to's. I must say even though it is from 2010 if anyone does this please be careful. We did this in science alot of times taking glass melting it and then shock cooling it in water. And when you snip the tail off with some pliers it would explode everywhere across the lab. Just be vary careful doing this though because the glass is shot out with such force it can and will cut you if it was to hit your skin.
The reason for my post here is because I wouldnt want anyone to try this anytime and get hurt. Wouldnt be nice for members of spudfiles to be getting hurt stay safe spudders !
