I have has this in the back of my mind for more than a year. I just finally brought it to the front of my mind a few weeks ago and got the "for sale page" up on the site yesterday.
Spudmonster is right about the nervous breakdown. Happened going into the holidays. Things were crazy busy here and with a newborn son to take care of too....just popped a fuse. Wandered around in a daze out in the shop for weeks until I snapped out of it. By then the already massive backlog of orders I had grown to an overwhelming level. I worked my ass off but it's hard to focus on the light at the end of the tunnel when you have a train rolling in behind you. Thats when I turned off the "train" better known as the orderform.
No...there is nothing coming down the line banning spudguns.
JRRDW.....Since I have been planning this for more than a year.....I have looked at every angle. And just to clarify (certainly not because I have to) Processed orders are the ones I have already charged and am working on getting out the door before I sell. "Orders not processed" are ones that are sitting here waiting to be charged. Basically the new owner would already have over $30,000 worth of orders to charge and fill before the ink is dry on the sales agreement. And.......using a "pod" to move cross country is not that expensive. My brother-in-law moved everything in his house half way across the country that way a year ago.
Either way....I am ready to move on and have already had a few serious "nibbles" in less than 24 hours

this is really sad, the populatity and expantion of spudguns is dependent on the internet, the first thing you see when you google or yahoo somthing on the lines of "spud gun" or "potato cannon" is spudtech.com, this puts spudtech in the center of all spud-guning
what really pisses me off is larry at spudgun.com gets control of rifled barrels, how did that happen I know he may be your friend but his website sucks and he sells bad quality DWV combustion stuff that any idiot can make. he isn't even good enough to sell pneumatics he is not worthy of the rifled barrels
and joel don't completly leave spudding, could you please contine devloping stuff with the store off your back you can go back to origenal making new and origenal master pieces

He doesn't get control of rifled barrels, he gets a bulk discount. Joel has been doing that for a long time, so it is not like anything will change.
Looks like a pretty good deal for anybody looking to own a small company. I hope it goes to someone who will take good care of it.

The deal with Larry is this. He will buy 20 1.5" barrels and 20 2" barrels from me 2..maybe 3 times a year. He only buys 3 footers and because he buys 40 at a time, I cut him a price break. That arrangement carried over from when Ed Goldmann ran the business. He and Larry had a deal going and I saw no reason to change that. Besides Larry only lives about an hour and 1/2 away from me.
He is no threat. He sells spudguns on a very limited scale for 1 reason. Every penny of profit he makes from selling spudguns goes into his primary hobby which is radio controlled airplanes.
Larry has sent me tons of business. Anytime someone contacts him about a custom pneumatic cannon....he tells them "get ahold of Joel over at spudtech...He 's the one to talk to about that". I'm positive that he will do the same for the new owner. It's a win-win situation. Larry buys barrels from me at a price that I still make a profit......and then he is professional enough to send me any business that he doesn't want. It's not that he can't build a pneumatic (he has)....He just chooses not to have them as part of his product line.
The spudgun community is supposed to be just that.....A community. If things start to get to cutthroat....the community falls apart and it becomes more of "Hatfields and McCoys" situation. I've been the big fish in a little pond for years now.......But I have never tried to squash the little guy trying to make a few bucks selling spudguns......I just refused to advertise for them on my site.....
Gort seems to be doing OK getting his business going.....Care to guess how many hours he and I spent on the phone. We're supposed to be a family......and there is plenty of money to go around if everyone helps each other out just a little....

Are you still going to innovate new spud guns, you once said you were planning on a 1” automatic, maybe now you can have time to do it

can you read whe were just talking about spudgun.com and larrys position on selling rifled barrels
Okay first of all I am sorry if I will sound like an ass, I am not trying to offend any one in anyway. I am just asking questions.
Dont you think $250k is a little bit outrageous? From what I understand you are selling websites domain and a crap load of tools. Plus, $100k a year from selling spudguns? The prices must be jacked up, because in my oppinion not that many people want to buy a spudgun. Its the whole I made it myself thing thats awesome about spudguns.
How many customers do you get? The sell page says that you get one million hits a DAY, sorry but I doubt that.
Could you show us some papers that show the hits per day and how many sales you have? Could you show us some papers that show your income from the website, maybe some deposit checks or some banking account papers?
Again not trying to be mean or an ass. Just saying that some of the things sound WAY too good to be true.

A: I'm not going to post confidential/personal/financial info on an open forum.
B: Come spend a week working with me and then tell the world how I am lying to everyone about the volume of sales I do in a year, a week...or day for that matter.
C: Not everyone knows how to, wants to, or feels safe building their own spudgun.
D:Yup...your being an ass.
I'm not offended...I have spent 6 years dealing with know-it-all's. One more reason I'm selling.
Good day,
Joel
