Probably…a lot of people hate logic.
Hey Schmanman can I barrow your S.W.A.T. gun and your 4 inch barrel?
My cat is getting rather quite annoying so I thought I’d give it an all-expense-paid-trip to the pond…hey would that make it a “cat”apult ?
Hayseed_Andrew, you never answered my fist two questions…
Oh and were the heck did you get a diesel air compressor?

well, I'm gonna use a 1 1/2" but it might not work.
and ya, squadbusters suck, me and a friend threw one back and forth 18 times once, kinda like russian roulette. He lost
Oh and the diesel compressor is my own creation. its more like an old 60 hp. tractor with an air compressor on a trailer. the tractors power is obviously wasted mostly though, as the compressor only needs like 5 hp.
EDIT: If anyone was to give me a free large compressor I'd be plenty happy:) might even smile at that

I'm not on these forums to be a bitch.
When I say something, I have a reason for saying it. And if you don't like to read what I've said, then why are you here?
You don't seem to have totally read my post. If you had, you would have perhaps realised I was talking about the paint grenades you have to strike when I said pyrotechnics.
I am not an idiot - I know that balloons aren't pyrotechnics. I am by no means a paintball expert, and I am more than capable of getting things muddled up.
I am trained and versed in health and safety. If I reckon something's dangerous, then in 99.9% of cases it will be. (Mind you, half the time I reckon something's safe, it explodes on me)
A kilometer of range is excessive, and highly dangerous. Trust me on this.
The issue doesn't have to be 10 or 20 yards - something that powerful could injure at 50 to 100 quite easily if it hit someone right.
And at 100 yards, your accuracy with this thing is likely to be squat.
Not you personally, but the cannon will just not be able to do it.
You will hit people at that range by accident very regularly - and you could have been aiming right over them, or even two dozen yards to one side.
They can be that inaccurate.
I don't care about responsible - your cannon won't be as conforming to that as you'll be.
Even if you don't think that someone will get hit at close range, accidents can and will happen. Someone will get hit at (a relative) close range. You could easily hit people you don't know are there.
As you said (not exact words)- "Everything is lethal, but most things don't kill us". What I'm saying is : "Allowing those things to be lethal is what kills people"
If you use a cannon can fire a kilometer (that is therefore potentially lethal) versus people, then you are allowing it to be lethal, so it can potentially kill.
I don't care what you think, I wouldn't do it.
If you use something rather milder then it's not going to get into those dangerous situations.
If you don't like what I've said, then I ask you to at least take it into consideration. And arguing back at me will do nothing - I'm not the one that's trying to build the cannon.

Yes I see how it would seem useless, cannon that could heave a projectile a kilometer, not to mention deadly. the cannons that the Nazis used against England could heave a projectile something like five miles(not even 30% positive on the range of’em just a rough estimate.) they were wildly inaccurate some times missing there mark by as much as a mile! and they were riled an air cannon is smooth-bore making it even more inaccurate The main reason for using them was the psychological impact of 20 pound shells coming out of nowhere. Think about it your walking through a field feeling safe because you think the enemy is over 80 yards away then all of a sudden, THUNK a squad buster slammed into the ground about five yards away. Your not hit, actually no one was but you now know the enemy is technologically superior, and the next round may not miss… I tell you what, if it were me id be running for cover.
Oh and about the safety issue:
You don’t shoot in a flat trajectory, the gun is at approximately a 45 degree angle. To decrease the range you lower the pressure and/or increase the angle.
Foe example: if you need to shoot some thing at 30 yards you hold the barrel at a very steep angle like 65-80 degrees with about half the pressure used to shoot full range.
The whole point of a howitzer like this is psychological warfare. If the enemy thinks there in danger and are scared, confusion and disorder will result allowing a small force to take on a large one and come out victorious.
If you’re really serious about Paintball read “Sun-Tzu, the art of war”
Well I hope you got every thing I said, and that I didn’t lose you…

If it were less powerful and fired at 45+ degrees, it'll be safe(ish). However, you'll have to keep to those quite well, otherwise real issues can and will arise.
The giant german cannons must have fired well over 20 miles - to shell the UK from Northern France would need that as a minimum.
And there, I'll leave the debate to lie. Beyond shouting the same things again, it won't really go anywhere.

They have paintball mortars... I dont think they are that affective. I know they had them at oklamoha dday tho (biggest paintballgame in the US)
You might be better off making a grenade laucher for ur gun (you can run it off your regulator and ur co2 [or w.e] tank)
If not you can make a LAW rocket laucher. Ive seen those in games and they are verry intimidating

I was actually thinking of something that is very collapsable, so I can wear it on my back or something. I also have a really new piston Idea that I believe nobody has done yet. I'm currently trying to make it work on paper.

Joannaardway, there is nothing safe about any form of weapon, the safety (or lack there of) comes from the wielder. Even a paintball marker can be deadly, even with out modification. IF you use your head than its safe. Remember, guns can’t kill unless someone pulls the trigger…
Now think, do you honestly believe, being in full knowledge of it’s lethality, that some one would point a paintball howitzer directly at some one and shoot them at 20 yards(point blank to a gun that shoots a kilometer.) intentionally?
Now Hayseed_Andrew, I would suggest a M79 style cannon. Use 3inch SCH40 PVC for the barrel, that way you don’t have to worry about your ammo being to big.

I've actually got more than 100' of sch 40 1.5'' at my disposal, so.. don't really want to not use that, and how about using 200psi rated firehose for a chamber?

the hose is 6" and I have a lot of it too. The point of the hose is so I can roll it up when it's not pressurized.

1.50 cal is fine but a squad-buster won’t fit even if you undo it.
