Ahh, I was wondering whether it was 16 sides or 60 sides..... A hexdecagon is 16 sides.

How many digits of pi did you use in your area calcs?

Everything was done to an accuracy of +/- 10-9. Even when multiplied by 16 (for the number of triangles in the shape) hardly enough error to throw the results that far off.

In the world of spuds today, I updated my thread on the 500 psi bbmg Machine Pistol I made and got ZERO response...

:(

Hahaha

I do however feel satisfied with this new toy :D

Based on my interpretation of the situation, it is also impossible, which is the only reason I considered posting it. I might get around to posting all the calcs tomorrow, but I don't have a lot of time right now.

The shape was a hexdecagon inscribed in a circle.
The radius of both was 10 units, making the area of the circle 314.15926535... units2.
By calculating the area of one of the 16 triangles composing the sexdecagon and multiplying by 16, we came out with something like 322 units2

This was all done using coordinates of the points, eliminating any measuring inaccuracy (and also making it take a lot longer to do). We used d2=(x2-x1)2+(y2-y1)2 to find the lengths of the various lines, Pythagorean theorem to confirm those calculations, and then the simple a=(bh)/2 to find the area of the triangle. I did the whole thing 3 times, and with 2 differing methods, and the whole thing was checked over by the teacher and anyone else who would take a look at it. No one found any source of the obviously massive error.

yea it has been a long time since i have posted on here. i kinda lost interest in spud guns for a few months. i didn't have any money cause i didn't have a job, but i got one now and the money flow is happening. My favorite pneumatic gun broke cause i forgot to put the bumper behind the piston. My advanced combustion is out of propane and i am too lazy to get more propane. My marble mini gun project prototype failed miserably, so that ended that project. Right now i am working on a BBMG. It should be done in a few weeks, depending on how much time i have to work on it.
trying to decide on a new project, probably something small.

Here's the shape, exactly as it was drawn:

Image

Good guess dewey, but, taking a look at that, I think I've found the problem: 32 + 22=13 and 42 + 12=17. I measured one of the triangles with a base of ~4.123, while some of the triangles had a base of ~3.61. :facepalmheaddeskcombo:

Which means it actually has an area of ~300.3 units2.
I guess the simplest things can fool the best of us...

In the world of spuds today, I fired an 8 pound dart ~360 yards at 350 psi with the SCTBDC. It likely would have gone a lot farther (read 600 yards), but the breach exploded, the disk failed 100 psi early, and the sabot was so tight that it melted in the barrel...
Ya gotta love high pressure :D

There is a video, but it doesn't show much other than the BOOM and one frame of the dart leaving the end of the barrel.

And before anyone asks, I found the dart (which is 5 feet long and dark black), then paced of the distance, then checked it with Google Earth to be sure. The choice of such a heavy projectile was to allow me to actually see it flying. A 1 pound dart in 2" bore could easily reach 1 mile.
*Cue random cries of bullshit*
