The higher the inputpressure, the higher the force on the bottom of the piston.( and the top too ofcourse!!)
This means that the motor can compress the air to a higher level before it cuts out.

Think of it as lifting a weight with a teeter-totter.
You're on one end trying to push the seat down while there is a 50 pound weight on the other end.
You can probably do that with one hand..

Now add 300 pounds on both ends.

Suddenly you are able to lift 350 pounds with one hand!!

This is all that the pressure input does.
Fantastic explanation! cheers guys :)

Do different brands of chronographs differ very much? I'm looking at a prochrono model because it's cheaper then a chrony model, but I don't know if the extra price for the chrony model is worth it

Usually for o-rings you have to do a bit of fishing around, as they really do come in all shapes and sizes for different applications. Usually on some sites you can specify cross section diameter (from a drop down box for example). On the other hand on sites such as ebay you just have to look around, filter out all the o-rings that have the correct inner diameter, then look at their cross section dia. But so far irritatingly I have found no 'scale' type keys to make finding the right one easier.

The out side copper pipe is the first stage it compresses air into the second stage witch is the smaller rod in the middle.

Has anyone ever used a car's air compressor as a high pressure compressor?

Hi guys short question here :) I have steel tube, 6mm ID and 10mm OD and i want to be able to thread the last half inch of the tube so i can then screw that into steel with a 10mm ID. Would I use an M10 Die on the 6mm ID tube and then an M10 Tap on the 10mm ID tube? Im not sure how metric threads work :/ Thanks in advance :D

nope, that isn't going to work!

You can thread the tube with a M10 die, but you can't tap a 10 mm hole with an M10 thread. You need to cut away material on the inside, in order to form threads wich slide into the threads on the tube. For M10 you want to tap in a 8.5 mm hole, afaik.
