Has anyone tried to use cap gun caps to ignite the mixture of a spud gun?
Not sure if it would be practical, just wondering if it has been done.

by the way the only way i can see cap being even close to practical is if they were used in single use cartridges like a spud bullet. it'll still be a mess to replace and set up. just stick with the grill sparker. u only need one.

If you could find some way to strike it inside the chamber then I suppose it could work, conceptually. Still highly unpractical, though.
Oh, and no, never heard of anyone trying it. Usually people like to stick with what's been tested and true.

You just went from cap guns to capacitors. Which will it be? 
Capacitors have been used several times before to produce sparks.
Check into CDI, that technique began in the 1950's for starting motorcycles.

The only reason one would even think about using caps is to use a mechanical means to strike them thus producing a spark...actually not a bad idea in concept.
However, using a fairly complex electronic means to "light" a cap would be preposterous.

Funny, I was thinking earlier today about using those blanks from powder actuated tools as an ignition source - a really big cap 
. But that's probably stepping out of bounds, even if it's a small portion of the overall propellant.

you could use a pneumatic ram to strike it inside the chamber.

Just a word of caution on the blanks for powder actuated nail guns and such. They can be even more powerful than regular firearm ammo so for safety's sake you would be better off using a primed case - but then your making a firearm - not really a spudgun. Id hate to think what would happen if someone tried to set off one of them in some pvc - or copper. Maybe Larda or a couple of others could lathe something up that would function safely - but the legal side would get sticky...
