ABS Pipe Testing

A friend and I this weekend will be testing ABS pipe with pressurized air, we are just curious how much it takes on average to burst varying diameters of pipes. We are also curious if the pipe can hold prolonged pressures as well which we will test by leaving it pressurized for 4 - 5 hrs.
We will be posting the results when we are done, also I don't plan on building a pneumatic out of ABS.

Don't worry all precautions are being taken.

Very cool. Thank you for doing this. I've been wanting to pressure test a length of 4" ABS with two end caps, but haven't found time.
Make sure you glue the joints properly (rough up the edges of the pipe, inside and out, with sandpaper before gluing so they have a good grip, and twist the pipes as you push them together to work the glue in. Then let it dry for at least 12 hours, 24 is prefered). How high can your compressor go? I think it'll hold 125 PSI (as high as my compressor will go) for quite awhile, actually. My guess is that the larger ABS (4") will burst around 180-200 PSI. Just a guess though.
Peace,
Pete Zaria.

Well we plan on doing 1", 2", 3", 4". We will get two feet of each, pressurizing one of each to 125psi and if it doesn't break we will leave it pressurized for hours, second we plan on pressurizing one of each to 70 psi and leave it for many hours to look for weaknesses and then pressurize it to 125 and see if it breaks at a lower pressure than the one before it and if it does it will show that it has been weakened by the pressure, and if it doesn't break we will just leave it pressurized for a longer period of time.
I know that only testing 2 pieces is not going to yield amazingly accurate results, as would be produced if we tested 5 or 6 each but it will give us a basis knowledge of the pipe.

Just curious, what kind of enclosure are you going to conduct the experiment in? You want something that would contain any potential shrapnel, although ABS usually doesn't shrapnel much at all from what I've seen. I'd just build a 1" thick wood box with a plexiglass top. Should cost $30 tops.
Is 125psi as high as your air source goes?
If you have a safe enclosure to do it in, I'd be curious to see what'd happen if you pressurized a 4" section to, say, 14psi with a 4% propane mixture, and sparked it. I expect it'd either blow off an end cap or rip the side of the pipe. If you do this, be FAR AWAY when you spark it.
Peace,
Pete Zaria.

Don't joke about that, its possible. We would probably never know too unless their parents logged on to their spudfiles account and posted that they died. Which would probably not happen, atleast I know if I died my parents wouldn't do that.
Use your head silly.
He just posted yesterday, Id find it likely infact he didnt die. Proably got bit in the ass with a bad case of 'lazy'. As MS124 said, Id think itd be a good thing not to say that the people are dead...

No I didn't die, Ive just been busy with other projects and the testing kind of slipped my mind.
