Heay everyone ive just made my first spud cannon with my dad and a couple of mates. It fires great (see vid below)
The problem is that its too loud and i live in a residential area, it is perfectly safe to fire it in my garden as i have a huge wall at the end of my garden which can be seen at the end of the vid.
We had no idea how powerfull these things were and it shocked as all lol
But its too loud to fire regulary without the neigbours phoneing the police
, do silencers really work, and if so, does anyone have a good design for one.
Thanks snikle

well, judging from the way you talk you're british or australian, i dont know what the laws are there, but here you cant legally possess a silencer without a 200 dollar tax stamp, which is why we dont make "silencers" per say, but we make "extensions"
you should have gotten the hint by now

ya, these extension we are talking about have holes in them and by coincidence they reduce noise. how odd..

o yeah, forgot to tell him about that, how strange of me.

Yer im British, so these "extensions" do they really work at reducing the noise in my "experiment on the expansion of gas"

yes roflmfao, and measure the speed of expansion by seeing how fast a potato moves in a tube.

Yeah, there certainly is a way to quiet a combustion, it's called: a longer barrel.
Seriously, make the barrel long enough that the C:B ratio is .7:1 or .8:1, and it will be pretty quiet.
It will make it more powerfull too!

so a for every 7" of the chamber add a 1' to the barrel.

that brings something up in my mind, does that equation work? and y somebody use c:b ration it a form like 0.5:1 while others use b:c and it's 2:1

kunte you're really off on that, it goes by VOLUME not LENGTH .7 of the chamber volume= the barrel volume (1)

the more barrel, the better then?
