ive noticed that the more snug the ammo is the louder and faster AND harder it shoots
this is because the explosions work even harder to get oxygen right?

also a snug fit allows for more pressure to build up and pack behind the ammo. ie, the more pressure the greater the initial velocity and force would increase as a result.

Talon pretty much hit the nail on the head. With a tight fitting projectile, there is virtually no blowby, which allows the projectile to harness more energy. Also, since none of the energy escapes around the projectile, it is released fromt the barrel as sound, hence the BOOM!

becarefull not to plug your barrel, by using a projectile too snug. When I snugged a capaciter from a broken amp in my barrel my end cap blew off and back about 15'. I use packing to prevent blowby, just any cloth, get a rod and pack it to the end then you can place objects on top and they will perform better. Happy Shootings.

THink of it as an unhithered pneumatic ram, rams work better if they have an O-ring around them. Why? The air/hot gases are constantly trying to push against every part of the gun and since the ammo is able to move it will be pushed. However if there is clearence the gases will escape round the sides and those gases will be lost. When you have a rifled barrel this effect is useful however, since the gas spins round the projectile in a forward spiral giving the projectile its twist. This is why rifling works.

About rifling, I disagree. Rifiling works because when you fire a projectile down a rifled barrel, the rifling litterally carves spiraled grooves into the projectile. Also, since the rifling spirals down the barrel, and the projectile is forced to twist with the grooves, the projectile exits the barrel spinning, thus stabilizing it the air. The longer the barrel, the more stable the projectile will be in the air.
Peace,
Pete Zaria.
