Solenoid Valve pneumatic cannon is insanely loud

Hi, I was wondering if this is a natural occurence. I have built a pneumatic cannon wiht a 25mm solenoid water valve and every time i fire it at a high PSI, an incredibly loud sharp horn/fart noise. I was wondering how to possibly reduce this noise. I feel that this noise may damage my ears eventually, or create much disturbance to people around me.

My cannon has interchangeable barrels that screw onto some yellow safety hose that come out of the solenoid valve.

That's honking. Check the wiki for more information.

The wiki didn't help much about honking with solenoid valves, but I think it means that my valve cannot handle the pressure too well. Would modifying the valve stop it honking?

Yes, modifying the valve will stop the honking. Good job peicing that together. I have added a reference to it being a common problem in sprinkler valves to the artical to prevent future confusion.

Incidentaly, I think it'd be nice if you could add a little sound clip of your valve honking to the wiki. You know, to help people out there diagnose their problem.
