Recently, as some may know we've had some problems with a member getting frustrated that his posts in N.S.G.R.D. were deleted and others were allowed to stay. I remember telling Trae, (his names in the thread that got locked so I see no reason in withholding it), not too long ago that the area was for hobby related discussion, basically, although I'm not too sure myself.

I think what makes him mad is he posted a few threads a while back on video games that got deleted. I think his recent post, (which was a link to an article on Theopia about his computer), could have simply been posted as a topic in N.S.G.R.D., because it fit's into the forum's genre.

So here's MY point. If people would bother to look, there is a sticky that says what you can and cannot post. It also says in the forum description.
PCguy wrote: Here you can post about projects you are working on as before, but you can also discuss more "serious" matters and have "mature" conversations. In fact the description for this section has changed into this.
All non-spudgun related discussion goes here such as projects, theories, serious questions, etc. All "off-topic" posts (aka useless posting, determined by moderators) will be removed.
Maybe this could be remade in to a sticky that says "DOES YOUR POST BELONG HERE?", like in the Theories and Accessories Page. Although I detest having to baby people like this, it might be required.

Also, could we maybe get some more specific rules as to what goes here? Under the guidelines above, talking about a computer you're having trouble with would be acceptable, but for some reason Trae though he had to link to a Theopia conversation.

Not trying to rant and rave, I was just wondering about some of this stuff. Trae made quite the exit, and as PCguy commented, he was the first donating member he had to ban. I really should have addressed this sooner. Don't know if it would have kept this whole mess from happening, (might have just made him leave earlier), but it'dve been worth a shot.

I'm no moderator, but from what i've gathered, this forum is a science forum first and foremost.

Had he posted pictures of his computer, talked about the specs, and made it seem like an interesting technical project, i'm sure it would have been allowed to stay.

So, yeah, a sticky clearly outlining this idea may not be a bad idea at all.

The problem with an outline of exactly what is aloud (aside from never being able to make a clear list) is that if moderators make a judgment call and remove a topic they find inappropriate, there will always be someone trying to get it reinstated based on some "technicality" they found in the guide lines.

I believe there is some rule around here that covers us, saying Mods might delete something on a whim, so just deal with it, but people still bitch about it.

I can't remember the video game thread, but if it was something stupid saying to play some crappy online game, I would've probably deleted it.

Unless it's about making games, discussing playing games doesn't belong here. Playing games isn't a hobby, but making them can be, so i'm fine with that. Though I did leave the Halo thread alone, it got quite popular straight away so I thought i'd leave it.

Wait, trae left? What happened? Did this happen while I was sleeping or something :P Bugger.

Well if he left because of the NSGRD that's his problem. As much as I don't like him leaving if he left over NSGRD it doesn't look like he would've done much SGRD.

I agree w/ BC for once. Moderators are like kings on this forum, the are allowed to do as they want as long as they don't break moderator rules. If you are on Spudfiles long enough you should get an idea of what is and is not allowed. Or just browse through the section to get an idea of the type of topics allowed.

Like i told Trae in that thread things get deleted, don't be hurt by it. But after PCGUYS post warning him to basicly settle down about it, he came back fighting and got banned, and that was it. I think the bad language is exactly why he was banned.

Edit: I think the rules are pretty self explanitory if you use some common sence.

What was said in this thread that I missed? Does it still exist?

I'm quite lenient on NSGRD with most things, if it's hobby related it shouldn't be deleted, but if it's borderline (Stupid youtube videos, online games etc) don't be surprised if your topic is deleted.

You know why his topic was deleted, because it was a link to a topic he made on theopia, he didn't ask anything new, he didn't even write anything relating to it, just linked it to us. As he said he was showing it off, that does not belong at SF.

We do have quite the techies here like Pete Zaria for example, but trae didn't ask a question, he didn't even ask a new one, he just linked us.

If he had said something different like

"My computer is kaput, i've checked this, this and this but it still doesn't work, can anyone give me some advice"

I would've left it.

If anyone else has a problem with topics in NSGRD or feel their topic was wrongfully deleted please feel free to PM me or another Mod.

I think trae was more upset not at the fact that his thread was deleted, but it was deleted without his notification, or a reason why. Maybe he knew before he posted his link thread (I missed that one), but maybe a Mod should have let him know that his thread was inappropriate, instead of just deleting it without letting him know.

Apparently the thread that was originally deleted was just a link to a topic on Theopia, expecting people to click it, go read it then respond on SF.

I talked to trae and told him that his topic would have stayed if the actually posted the content on SpudFiles AND included the link to Theopia, that making a new thread here on SF containing only a link to Theopia wasn't acceptable. Trae has been given a second chance as well.

It is very hard to write set rules for the non-spudgun related section, this is because I want quality discussion in that section... I do not want it to turn into an "off-topic chat" type of forum. Trae asked me about this topic... why it was locked. I will use this as an example.

http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/halo-3-t10779.html

Yes it may have been a "discussion", however when you just post "who has halo 3 yeah I got it I like it!", it just asks for a bunch of replies such as "yeah halo 3 is cool" and "master chief is my best friend". Now if the thread was asking for details of the ranking system and talking about strategies of Halo 3, then it may have stayed since the topic is asking for a good discussion not just a bunch of "useless" comments.

Even a topic such as mentioned above is near the line, since a discussion about Halo 3 could turn into a game chat very easily. The forum is really intended for more mechanical projects such as building go-karts, engines, etc.

Due to the difficulty in making exact rules to follow for this section, I allow moderators to deem what is a solid conversation due to the extreme amount of topic ideas that could be posted. I stand behind my moderators rulings however if someone feels that something was locked/removed wrongly then I am usually more than happy to look over the decision myself. At times there have been accusations of moderators having grudges against certain members, again I will look into those issues upon request as well.

As demonstrated with trae's thread that got him banned, do not bring up an issue you are having with a moderator in public, especially in a violent manner. Always come directly to me or directly to that moderator via PM.

I will not lie, most of the time I will not overturn a moderators decision because I trust my moderators decisions. They know what I want on the forum and what I do not.

1st: the fact that the halo 3 thread got locked had nothing to do with my "angry" thread

2nd: im sorry

3rd: i got mad mainly cause ive seen a few of my threads dispear from that section." cant exactly remember which ones"

and if whoever deleted it would have just pmed me saying you've got to put more then that in your thread or i will delete it then i would've fix it but instead they just said "ill show him" and deleted it they didn't really say that thats just my imagination

and yes i did take it way to far. i am aware of that.

as you can see by going to the nsrd i reposted my thread with alot more in it then just a link.
