Have 2 Spud Wiki's. A 1st Time Builders Wiki and a Advaced Wiki.
There is a lot of begining level info that could be seperated for the newbies. I think the only hold back there is getting the newbies to use it.
Beginner's 1st Cannon
VERY TRUE. This, I've observed.MrCrowley wrote:Any kid who can build a spray and pray can also make crude explosives just as easily
So do we want to make a "newbie's wiki?"

That would also put to rest most of the "I searched but couldn't find it".saefroch wrote:So do we want to make a "newbie's wiki?"
Edit: I just PMed PCGUY about the current Wiki, can it be split or beginner info moved to a new Wiki easily accessed for 1st time builders. We'll see what PCGUY thinks of it.

That's what I meant.Zeus wrote:I think JSR is referring to an instructibles type guide. I think if someone is clever enough to replicate a launcher posted here, chances are they're smart enough to not be an idiot with it.
Idiots are why I use youtube as a hosting medium and nothing else.

You make something idiot proof and better idiots will screw it up.
At least most of my builds if poorly made simply won't hold air so they are relatively safe for idiots.
With the exception of my latest contest build, some advanced building skill is needed.

I think that the best idea would be to get all the how-to's and what-are's at the moment and put them in a specific place or section/wiki. speaking from experience when I was first introduced to this site a long time back I was trying to find out about coaxial pneumatics, it took quite a long time to find out about them but when I got there there was a huge bank of knowledge. If we gather all really good information that is just the really good quality stuff and put it into a "information- for beginners or research" wiki which has a load of easy to follow noob links to it and in it complete with easy to follow pictures*, then I think that would work.
*as a beginner and I think I speak for a multitude of people here, following and looking at pictures is easier to understand than at-the-time-jargon that can emerge from spudding, detent as an example of a word - when I first came on this site this word meant nothing to me.
If you get a title like "coaxial piston cannon-how-to" it does sound clever but to a noob it can be really confusing remember - "the noob knows nothing, so explain everything"

OK, I talked with PCGUY and the idea is keep it a simple page in the Wiki and it will be linked to the Wiki front/home page then advertized from Spudfiles so 1st time builders can find it.
Work has had me busy but I got a page started keep in mind it's just getting started. Your input is welcome.
