I've been able to it on my forums (which I sold) by selecting a specific forum, say "Website Discussion" on SpudFiles for example, and editing the forum permissions so that only admins and mods can post in that specific forum. Then you edit the portal/index page to take and post all topics from that specific forum on the homepage.
The process is different for MyBB (which is what I was using) and phpBB, but I know that both have this functionality.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the tips. I'll run through a few things here that I know I've said to people before, but I'll post them again.
-Yes, the current version of phpBB is very old. I have about a 75% complete copy of SpudFiles running the newest version of phpBB on a local server of mine. The #1 problem is that the current site is so heavily modified to do various things, that I have to ensure I am not *removing* functionality and features by switching to the new version. It's been since Christmas time since I last got a good chance to work on things, and it looks like I'll be getting another chance here soon. The new version also relies upon quite a number of modifications, a number of which have been abandoned or are in very beta stages. I've had to work around these issues and simplify things as much as I can.
-The front page is old as hell, yes. I actually have a new video going up very soon for UltimateSpudGun of me shooting computers. What I need honestly is more SpudFiles staff. I will still be the only administrator with full server access, but with phpBB 3.0 I can setup a limited administrator to help out with some things. I also wanted a writer to post things on the front page every few weeks... but the few people that I had interested in it never bothered to reply to me about it. I never went to look again as I was fairly disappointed at how easy it is to get people wanting to be a moderator, but so few people willing to write for the home page.
-The site is not very appealing to "new spudders" in the sense that yes, a lot of things on SpudFiles look high-end especially to a new comer. We have always talked about building more new-spudder friendly things in the Wiki, but no one has ever taken on the task and kept with it.
I unfortunately can't do everything myself, so as soon as I move to phpBB 3 I want to increase the SpudFiles staff by at least 3x (moderators, writers, and an assistant admin). I still want to handle the server part it's self though (since I AM PCGUY!) and handle the forum code it's self. I just need help with the day-to-day tasks and people to help keep information up to date.
Please feel free to discuss any of this.

Yes, I am the guy that owns & operates SpudFiles (along with our extremely helpful moderators).

I was wondering if the old chat was ever coming back. I liked how you could see who was in it on the main screen and that you had to use your real username, it provided much more actuall spud related discussion and less trolling IMHO

Same here, flash chat was the best. Hell I'll even donate some money to get it back.
Yeah, it's that important.

I definitely agree about having the old chat back, I wasn't here when it was used but I never use chat now because people just log in as random users and troll others/pretend to be other users and give them a bad reputation.

I liked the old chat, a few of it's features were fun, but I've got no problems with this chat, hang around for long enough and you get to know all the different pseudonyms people go by.
And changing your name as the conversation changes is quite fun, nothing like mocking certain pneubs...
