So we have a few people that agree on a mod-approved plan forum. I think we might be able to take the idea to PCGuy now. All in favor?

Spudfiles definitely needs a plan section. A whole bunch of people come to this forum who don't realize that there are an infinite number of safe ways to build a potato gun.
A plan section would stop tons of noob posts and probably make the traffic go way up which would be good for PCGUY (and us if we had another competition with mula involved...)
Plus once people make their first gun, they realize that plans aren't so important anymore.

No, If we want this to work, it has to be in their faces as soon as they browse the forum. Most don't go to the how-to section. We should have it up the top with genereal spudgun related but the section should be locked to stop 'no0bs' asking stupid ass questions that we should've supplied for them and to stop them making topics.frankrede wrote:I like the idea, how bout a renovation of the how to database?A section for Complete Combustion plans, complete Pneumatic plans, Accessories, Parts..etc

OK so I PM'd PCGuy about the topic. My thoughts are this. If we got the Mod-approved plans forum, each plan would include good schematics, parts list, and possibly step-by-step instructions. The Greeting PM that new users recieve could also be changed to include a link to that forum. I really think this would solve a lot of problems. You know that the most common first question from noobs is where do I get some plans? Well this would fix that problem, and the less the noobs get flamed for questions like that, the more likely they are to continue to participate in the forums.

I love the ideas flowing however...
The how-to sections is exactly what you are asking for, a section for plans. It just doesn't have mod approval.
Maybe a rename or something would be in order? Pointless to have both the current how-to section, and a "plans" section.

Yes, I am the guy that owns & operates SpudFiles (along with our extremely helpful moderators).

Perhaps a rename, yes. And could a subsection be added for schematics? Anyway, we just thought this might solve a couple of problems.
EDIT: Or here's an idea. Rename for the How-to section, and sticky the really good ones and ones that would be useful to noobs, and label them as such, basic combustion/pneumatics plans. That might work. But I agree with the others, it does need to be pretty in-your-face when you sign up.

Well in the forum it tells how many times each topic was visited. is that what you're talking about?

Oh....
Well I feel retarted now. Well some of those topics have several thousand views, so I would think that gets visited at least every now and again.
So maybe there would be a way to automatically redirect noobs to the plans page after they sign up and all that?
