problem with the wiki would be vandalism. and also, people could just make some shit cannon and put it in there just to be 'funny'.

i understand it is difficult to do what we're suggesting, but i think the simplest way would be the sticky thread in each discussion area forum.

I still say it should be up to the moderators; who gets into the hall and who doesnt. this way no jerks could mess it up just to have a laugh.

The record book could be a good addition to the wiki, but in my opinion (sorry), the wiki is lacking a lot now. I think it should be expanded greatly, hopefully in an attempt to defer noobs from asking those <sarcasm>wonderful</sarcasm> questions we all love answering: "How do I mod a valve? Which is better, pneumatic or combustion? What does DWV mean?"

well many of these forums on the site could still be confusing to newbies but over time people get the hang of it.

i think that it should be a forum that the mods put in the cannon topics and in the hall of fame forum topics can only be started by mods. members can comment the topics but not post a topic in it. i think it would just be nice to show the best of the best.

each having a sub forum for combustion, penu , and hybrids. minis if any fo in being included in how ever they are powered.

A button next to the Home/Forum/Cannons/Wiki/Album buttons linking to an otherwise invisible forum section?

No confused newbies and no apparent cluttering section.

You can lock a wiki page to prevent vandalism. And I believe you could also assign a group of users who can edit it (i.e. have more privileges). But that means more maintenance. Though I agree, the Wiki could use a little attention.
A record book could also be created with little effort: proof could be in the form of video or images, where applicable.

I didn't really want to see this topic die out, because I really think a hall of fame for spudguns would be a good idea. The true masterpieces are the ones which inspire everyone else to try something new or to replicate another great idea. Whenever I come onto spudfiles or the spudtech archives, I often look for a great gun, such as clide's slider gun, Mr. Plow's Ultimate Inline series, or Gort's Mauler Valve series. I think the Hall of Fame would be a good way to both show the best of the best of the spudgun world, as well as to allow easy access to view information about these great cannons. I like Hotwired's idea of it being a "catalog" of good spudguns.

Here is what I think would be a good idea. First, we choose a council of ten spudgunners. These people need to be respected and their opinion must be valid. This selection could occur by everyone putting in their input, and then 10 people would ultimately be selected. If one of these ten members does not seem fit to be in this council, then people could voice their opinions to the moderators (through PM'ing, so the person in question would not have feelings of anger towards any other member).

It is this council of 10 members who will determine whether a cannon is allowed into the Hall of Fame or not. The process would go like this: If one member believed that a cannon was worthy of going into the hall of Fame, he/she would PM the other members of the committee, and would expect to get back either an agreement or a disagreement. If 7/10 or more of the committee members agree, then the cannon in question is allowed into the Hall of Fame. If 5/10 to 6/10 agree, then the cannon in question should be discussed among the members. If the cannon in question receives less than 5/10 votes to be in the Hall of Fame, then it is not allowed into the Hall of Fame.

Of course, this system obviously has a few problems... for one, there would need to be a way of communicating directly with the other members of the committee if a cannon received 5/10 or 6/10 positive votes. Secondly, the relationship between the committee members and the builder of the cannon could corrupt their judgment; an awesome cannon might not get in because some of the committee members do not like the member, and a crap cannon might get in because some of the committee members like the builder.

I know this system is very very complicated, but I really do not like the idea of just having all members post in the thread of the finished cannon saying that they want it into the Hall of Fame. If one member does this, then others will likely follow, even if they do not really like it. If anyone has a way of simplifying this process, make your idea known! Because as of now, my idea is WAY too complicated to actually work; there would be too many problems with it.

(and BTW, if a hall of fame or something actually was created before I posted this response, and I just missed it, my bad   )
