i dont know about anyone else but it really bothers me when people complain about people kicking up old topics...there is a "Random Cannon" box...which does show people new and old cannons...alot of people do not realize its an older cannon when posting a comment about it...also even if it is an older cannon maybe they havent seen it yet

You guys don't realize how annoying it can be to other senior members and moderators in this forum. I also seem to get annoyed at times... well it usually depends on that persons grammer. Bumping old topics misplaces the more important ones and is therefore frowned upon, it took me a while to understand this as well. In time you will get it.

iisthemuffin, i get where you're coming coming from, but was it really nessesary to start a whole new topic because of this? In the future, please take your comments to the moderators.

There is no issue with bumping up an old topic to add an important bit of info, but saying "nice cannon!!11111one" is not worth saying in the first place, and is taking current discussions off of the recent topics list, where we look to see what is being discussed. Also, anything you post on an old topic is no longer being followed by anybody, and nobody really cares about it any more (hence it being a dead topic) and so your comment is pointless, and the intended recipient will never receive it. The chances are the original creator isn't even an active member of spudfiles anymore.

If you have something worth me reading, then go ahead and bump it back up. Anything else please leave in your head, as nobody really cares that you think it is a "good cannon!!!111one"

Sorry to sound mean, thats just the way it is. There is nothing worse than time wasted, as time is priceless.

Just a few points:

- This is a community. So you must contrast your personal interests with the community in whole.

- Threads age because they have become unpopular, or irrelevant. So provoking these threads with something equally irrelevant and you will piss people like me off.

- No where is it expressed or implied that you need to comment on the "random cannons."

And I have to agree with iPaintball on the fact that this should have been taken up privately before bringing the issue here in a thread. I'll watch the thread and at some point in time I may lock the thread.

I might also add that generally if you kick a old topic with something worthwhile MOST people don't care. But telling a guy that posted his gun two years ago to install a pressure gauge is worthless. Or telling him his gun is cool...

Bumping an old topic is a direct result from using the search function. Adding replies of "cool cannon, dude" or "where did you buy your sprinkler valve, dude" are immature and annoying. If your post has absolutely no relevance to a thread, don't post. Fairly simple concept, huh.

If you have a specific question about a cannon, you could always just PM the guy who made it. Failing that, bump away.

It just gets confusing sometimes when old topics get brought back up, especially since some of them can cause old arguments to be rekindled.

Parroting comments like you just did here is also frowned upon. Also, let a mod make these type of authoritative proclamations.

Okay, iisthemuffin read this carefully....

Why?

Why would you bother bumping up a topic? What's the point? So you can say 'cool cannon dude' and get one more post added to your post count?

If you're asking a genuine question that hasn't be answered anywhere on the thread before and the topic isn't months old, then bumping it to ask should be fine.

But if it's to ask a simple question that can be easily searched, as far as everyone is concerned it's a waste of a post.

So the chances of a cannon having a certain feature only found on that cannon or you need to ask something that is so important that no searching can help, are very, very small.

How often do you get a cannon with a unique feature that isn't already explained in the thread? Pretty much zilch.

So that solves your problem, you should really never have to bump a topic.

Edit:
iisthemuffin wrote:by yelling at someone for posting in that topic they are just contributing to keeping that old topic alive
Actually me and the other mods tell them via PM. We incourage the members not to contribute to the clutter by telling them off.

It's not 'keeping the topic alive' that bothers us. It's waking the dead.

and i completely understand where you guys are coming from...i do not belive that this is an issue...i just thought i would voice my opinion about it and see what others thought...i dont think that this particular thing is something that i should have gone to mods about...im not trying to change anything...im just having a discussion

i understand it can be annoying and i completely agree that it is pointless to say things like "cool cannon" but thats not exactly what i was getting at...its more the fact that people actually take the time to yell at these people

there are plenty of Mods that can handle the situation privately...and it doesnt even have to be privately but it will get handled by someone that should be handeling it

i also think it is pointless to bump up a thread to say you like something about someones cannon...im in no way defending the people that do this...but more so saying its pretty much just as bad for people to freak out on them over it

The reason people yell at these posting whores is to keep them from doing something like this again, because if no one tells them this behavior is not accepted on this forum they will think its fine and they will keep on doing this stupid stuff.

thank you jrrdw...i wasnt completely sure where i should put this

and that makes perfect since maniac...but the mods do take care of them...and they are the only people with the authority to do so...someone yelling at them doesnt fix anything...if they were to just let it go then the mods would personally tell them that that is not excepted on the forum and the problem is solved

i really did not want to get involved in this thread because a couple mods do annoy me because of there "power trips". and i am not downgrading anybody because this is a great site and most mods do a great job keeping it clean. just wanted it to be known that when u chew out somebody for bumping old topics it really looks bad and might "run off" members that could greatly contribute to spudfiles. just saying maybe a mod or 2 needs to be modded sometimes yet im sure they are "hopefully".
