I was looking at some lighting photos and I came up with this: What if you could build a ultra mini tesla coil and stick it in a 4'' combustion cannon? Im not sure if one could do that though...Just a random bored thought!

I already suggested using a Tesla coil as ignition a while ago. the guy was building a basket ball cannon

Ignition coils and flyback transformers uses some of the same principles as a TC, but bulding a bona fide TC for ignition is to overcomplicate things. The power supply alone will work better as an ignition source.

someone said that the power supply would make a better ignition source but can you make say 10" sparks with the power supply to a tesla coil, probably not!!!!!!! a tesla coil however will make a hotter spark and a longer one and it looks cool!!! just dont touch the primary cause it can kill!!!!!!!!

Well they are certainly more than enough to ignite fuel mixtures :D

Highly impractical, and I doubt that the performance change(if any) would be worth the time or effort.
Nonetheless I don't like the idea of having to plug my cannons into a wall outlet

Well, as awesome as it does sound, it seems to me to be inherently dangerous.

If your gonna go mains powered electrics pick up a neon sign generator. I made a Jacobs Ladder with one and it hardly needed to touch paper to set it alight....

Hahaha, that would solve the debate about spark placement, just have a spark that moves from one end to the other. I love it!

Details details... That's about what I imagine a tesla coil would do as well. I doubt it would be very friendly to the chamber walls.

you can make tesla coils powered by two of those 12V sealed lead acid batteries and it should only require a little extra circuitry to make an oscillator that will drive the coil!!!!

It wont do much good to the simplicity of your gun, but will will look cool.
Also it won really make it better and I dont think its safe either.

But...
Just having one...
is AWESOME!!!! :P

if you don't touch it its perfectly safe!!!!! just whatever you do don't touch the primary!!!! who cares about simple????? isn't it the point to make it as complicated as possible??? hahahahahahahaha
