Hi, I'm new, and I'm really bad with DIY..

Boom! The classic potato gun harnesses the combustion of flammable vapor. Show us your combustion spud gun and discuss fuels, ratios, safety, ignition systems, tools, and more.

Well as I said above with the title, i'm not good with diy stuff.. but i want to try to build a spud gun anyways.. So I want to do a very basic one i.e. combustion. But I have some questions...

Are there any instructions on the site (or any other site) on building an idiotproof and easy/basic spud gun? Yes, I have searched, but, it's still too broad..

Also, what is with the ratios? I keep seeing people doing 1.5:1 but i also see that you should try a 1:1 ratio and such..

and i want to build a 2.5-3 ft gun.. but i would like it to have a bit of power..

the guns that i saw on the site, that i thought looked cool were these :

are any of these combustion?? i figured i try something like that, but on a smaller scale.

any help would be great thanks.

they are both combustions. they are extremely simple and can be made in about an hour.

check out www.advancedspuds.com tons of good info and basic and advanced combustions. this is probably a good way to get better at DIY projects, so i encourage it, just be safe about it.

make sure and use pressure rated pipe and fittings and just as importantly have fun.

They are both combustions. A pretty much idiot proof combustion would be jsut a in line combustion. The one you see next to the spudfiles name at the top of the page. With a simple piezo BBQ ignitor. WIth some other crap added on if you feel like it.

Anyone on spudfiles could give you a step by step plan for a basic combustion, but what would be the fun in that? It is great to design something yourself then see your target get blown to pieces

Just make sure to do research first because my first cannon exploded on me. just remember to use pressure rated parts and not to exceed the lowest pressure rating on your gun.

From what I understand, .8:1 is the optimal ratio for a propane-powered cannon, and 1.5:1 is the optimal ratio for an aerosol powered one.

I'd go with a larger chamber simply because it makes a more satisfying bang 8)

for a spray n pray, a cb ratio really doesnt matter if you're just trying to launch a spud for fun and not caring about how efficient it is. but yeah, what turbo said, the higher the cb ratio, the louder and more kick you'll receive.

OK heres a template for building an idiot-proof spudgun. You need: a large diameter( 3-4) pipe for the combustion chamber, a smaller pipe(1.5-2) for the barrel, and a way to fuel and vent it with fresh air. As long as you have all those key components, you pretty much cant go wrong. You can always upgrade later

As a matter of fact I am new at this as well. I have some basic plans if you want them. The gun I have now may look like the same but it's completely different than what I started with. The ideas keep pooping in my head but I can't afford all of them. You will find that this site is the most up to date and active that I have found.

if this doober can't figure out if it is a combustion or a pnuematic if IT IS IN THE COMBUSTION SHOWCASE YOU MORON and you are too stupid to figure out how to build a simple spray and pray yourself you don't deserve plans PERIOD
Yea, that's definitely going to get you at least a tazer.
