Recently, i've been browsing around the forums, trying to find a perfect model for my first BB gun. I was wondering if a sprinkler valve would work nicely on a BBgun, not a BBMG but a single shot rifle. I'm planning to have a bolt system with a 1/4inch barrel connecting to a modified sprinkler valve(With adapters ofcourse). Followed by the sprinkler valve will be the air chamber (Aprox 80-100 psi) and simple stock right behind it. There will also be a blowgun valve as the trigger. Would it be wise to use a sprinkler valve on a bb gun? I can see that the sprinkler is more accurate..ball valves cause me to jerk the whole gun to one side.
But yet again, ball valves have more air release at the point of opening.
To counteract this, i'll be shooting a BB, which doesn't need much power to propel the projectile.

Any suggestions on this future project?

yes a sprinkler valve would work, but i think its kinda over kill. you would be choking the barrel like crazy and it might actually decrease your performance. i would suggest buying a 1/4'' or maybe even a 3/8'' QEV (quick exhaust valve) you can get them on ebay for less than $10 (beats the heck out of $15 for a sprinkler valve) and it would work much better, not to mention look nicer.

another option is to build a piston valve, but if you are new to "cannon" making, then i suggest a QEV, which is just a commercial diaphragm valve that work very similarly to a sprinkler valve.

for a barrel i suggest going to your local hobby shop and getting some brass tubing, they have perfect barrel for real bb's, airsoft bb's, pellets. dont go in and ask for "barrels", ask for brass or aluminum tubing.

good luck, post it when you are done.

Nothing wrong with using a sprinkler valve for a BB barrel, you'll get decent power if the barrel is long enough, actually probably a bit too much to safely use in airsoft if that's your intention, particularly at 100 psi. You can make the barrel removable to give you the possibility to upgrade to a larger calibre in the future.

Another option is to just use a blowgun, you'll get good power and the option of multiple shots from a large enough chamber.

Ah yes. My intention was to make the barrel removable, because 100psi can also serve with a nice pneumatic rifle. A bit on the lowside. From what i've seen alot of the pneamatics on this forum go past 100. I'll probably add some other knick knacks onto the rifle as well...

EDIT: To 'hi"
Thanks. Surely i'll post when i'm done.

EDIT2: Blowgun...very true. I'll see if i can get two versions down. One as a mid range and another as a sniper rifle. For the mid range, i'll try to contruct a magazine.

Yeah just look at some of my posts under cannons>bb airsoft. I posted some valves and airguns which should be fairly easy to make. Here check out this project: http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/p-2-ver ... 12712.html

Its a multiple shot bb gun which shoots at around 250-300ft/s at 5-7atm
