Im very tempted to log on to nerf haven right now and post a thread teaching all the stupid 10year olds over there how its done. That vid was great my throut almost exploded laughing(have a cold very sore throat)especially at his little dance.I bet the CB ratio on that thing is like 100:1.
Ill go make a little 1in pipe chamber gun that will probably outperform his gun with some spare parts when I get over this cold.Ill post it over there and spread the teachings of pressure rated parts and C:B ratios and not using freaking 1/2in valve on a 4in chamber like on the vid.Id bet they dont even know what a sprinkler or piston valve is.
Yeah, if you go over there, act like a jackass/know it all, you'll get yourself banned. Most of the more respectable members there are in college, some even older than that. They're not all 11 year olds playing around with "that weird piping stuff". The reason they don't make super powerful spud-gun like weapons is that they actually shoot each other with them. Who would want to get a bruise when they are trying to have fun.

You have to think about the intended purpose of the project. I have no idea why the hell that guy used 4 inch piping for his chamber, I know that it's not something I'd ever want to use in a nerf war. So yes, that particular members certainly doesn't showcase the best of Nerfhaven.

If you want some help making a springer from scratch check this one out-

http://nerfhaven.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6232

It might give you some ideas.

Also, if you look in the homemades forum, there is a pinned topic called the "homemades directory" of all completed homemade NERF guns. Some of the best stuff has been posted by the members named "Captainslug" "Carbon" "carrtoon" and of course "Boltsniper"

People shoot each other with paintball guns. These leave bruises sometimes and everyone has fun playing it too.

I am also building a springer. I am using a 35ml syringe for the plunger and a barrel for bbs. For the fun of it I attached the barrel to the syringe and pushed has hard as I could on the plunger. It almost went through a piece of cardboard. I know it isn't much but consider that is a loose barrel, no lube on the plunger, and me using my hand instead of the springs I am going to use. The only thing a can't figure out is how to build a frame and trigger setup. Anybody got any ideas for a simple trigger and frame setup?

The thing about syringes is that the plungers already have 100% seal. Thats why it had such good performance.

For a trigger i'd go with the clothespin one in the link provided by Wombat in the post two above yours

Wombat I have TONS of respect for CS boltsniper, cartoon, forsaken angel, carbon and some others, I think we're talking about all the noobs. The people mentioned above are talented and inovative, but they don't teach the noobs like we do here, and If you don't brake any rules you wont be banned. the problem is getting people to realize how flawwed there logic is, and how noobie they are. Humans don't like to change. I showed them the topic about valve opening times, and the damage done to paper, but I dont think they got the message.

I know that people get bruises playing paintball, but Nerf isn't paintball. If everybody had rifles powerful enough to leave busies, it would ruin the whole point of nerf wars, which is playing around with a bunch of toy guns, and feeling like a kid. Long range powerful weapons lead to boring standoffs where nobody has fun.

Oh yeah, and most of the noobs that sit around posting stuff on the forums don't really need to be worried about since they don't even play the game. The whole point of modifying or making a blaster is to make it more usable in a war. not make it so powerful that it's unusable.

That would be what I and JSR, respectively, said. Neither of us spout nonsense... well, occassionally... quite often... most of the time... ok, all of the time...

If you are going to go through with it, you really do need to be careful, or you'll repeat my feat of an attempted digital cutback.
In terms of muzzle energy to personal risk, a springer is exceptionally poor.

I'm not going to stop you, but there are much better and safer alternatives to the same problem.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

I stand by my statements on the subject, but if you're really keen:
Tsukiten wrote:-What kind of FPS would I be getting? (assuming I'm using an old airsoft spring+ perhaps some rubber bands)
Not a lot with that setup, I'd say less than 350 feet per second for a 0.12 gram airsoft BB - even with a basic pneumatic you have the potential to get much, much more than that, which is why I recommend taking that route as opposed to making a springer.
Tsukiten wrote:-Is good sealing important?
Yes, but even without 100% sealing you'll be fine - friction is very critical however, the piston must move freely and easily and be well lubricated.
Tsukiten wrote:-Does the bb need to have a tight fit at the beginning of the barrel? (like for example; rubber layer on inside of the beginning of the barrel where the bb sits to be fired)
This helps with performance as it gives some time for the air pressure behind the BB to build up before it starts moving.

Have a look at this demo, it will help with the theory: 8 milliseconds in the life of a springer
