Question about Sparker placement

Is it safe to drill a hole for the BBQ clicker to go inside the chamber if certain precautions were taken? For example using tons of superglue on each side of the hole, then surrounding it with foam such as Great Stuff on the inside? Normally I would just have it on the outside but I need to make a really compact gun.

Advice is really appreciated

Its ok to put it into the chamber i would say. I dont have experience with it but i think it would be ok if you put it through a double layer such as a coupler or a reducer or something.

DONT USE SUPER GLUE. go buy some epoxy for 1-2 dollars, and there is no need for foam, epoxy will hold. The reason I say dont use super glue is it is not strong enough, and with pressures of 60+(combustion pressure), It may fly out, and can take your thumb on the ride with it.

While epoxy is a better choice i would say GOOD super glue would still do the trick.

A standard spray and pray only produces 40 - MAYBE 60 psi. And that is still just shock pressure. Its really nothing that it has to sustain.

People have built pneumatics with super glue and they have held for some time. The ones made with the good glue held for even longer. I think some people around may still have some. I do not recommend it for safety reasons but i dont think using super glue to hold your sparker is a terrible idea. It would PROBABLY hold.

Use epoxy. Its cheap and can hold ALOT of pressure. But if you really feel the need to use super glue dont get any dollar store crap. Get some respectable brand and make sure its good stuff.

first off, i'm guessing that this is a small spray n' pray? second, I would use epoxy, mainly because I would feel much safer, and I have a lot at my house.

Its not really spray n pray, I use atomized alcohol as fuel and its been 100% consistent so far as well as having a lot of power. So drilling holes in the chamber is pretty worrying

Spray and pray is pretty much anything thats not metered. If you open up the back or front or wherever it is and spray something in, that is what is characterized as spray and pray.

You would be fine drilling a whole in the chamber for a sparker. But like i said, put it in a double layer and put expoy around it.

I have a mini gun that has the barrel epoxied in and i take it to 80 psi with no leaks. If you get decent epoxy and apply it correctly you wont have ANY problem with the sparker hole.

well im making a compact paintball shotgun as a backup weapon out of a single pipe so there wont be a double layer.

And I thought spray n pray was when u used random chemicals from aerosol cans, but I guess not

since you said it's all one pipe and there will be no reducers, i'm going to insist you get a coupler for whatever diameter pipe you are using, and using a dremel tool or something similar, remove the ridge in the middle of the coupler and slide it to whatever position you want the sparker to be and then drill your hole for the sparker. This will just be an added measure of safety. I mean you don't really want this thing blowing up your hand do you??

BigGrig makes a very good suggestion. i would personly put it towards the back though. Also you could glue it in place with pvc cement. Actually that would probably be your best option so that it it more likely to stay put.

That makes sense. Id kinda like to keep it looking like one pipe tho so ill just cut a small section from a piece of pipe and epoxy it on to make a double layer under the sparker
