I'm working on building a little pistol to shoot darts with and I was wondering if I could use my old electric air soft pistol's base to send the electric charge. Do you think it would work or should I just use a bar-b-que lighter?

You could build the BBQ lighter into the base.

I believe electric airsoft pistols work on solenoid valves, and are thus nowhere near capable of producing the voltage needed to ignite combustion-type cannon.

No, electric airsoft pistols work the same way low end rifles work. With a motor, some fragile gears, and a piston. It's a glorified button.
Completed projects:
CA1 SMSS Basic Inline
CA3 PDAB Airburst Cannon

Alright, well it still wouldn't be enough to spark. Unless you connect it to an SCR and a camera flash or something.

Yep, for a spark you need a high-voltage system, and the electric system in your pistol is nothing like that.
Take everything out and put a high voltage system (like a stungun or BBQ igniter) in.
