My only real concern at this point...Chris, I have to be frank, this cannon is very poorly presented. The photos are small thumbnail size and your write-up is completely missing in action. You do get some points for showing some shooting video, but even those don't really move your cannon forward much in the overall picture.
You haven't given us much to discuss here. Replace the above thumbnails with larger versions of your photos and write up a description and specs of the cannon.

Starman: sometimes you remind me of Simon from American Idol. 
Its fun adding little improvements to a simple spray and pray eh? I remember doing the same thing to my first spud gun. I was so proud of the fact that I got a cpu fan in there, hooked up to a switch and everything. I bet it is much more fun to shoot now! But I gotta agree, these tiny pictures are the pits.

I followed it a couple of years ago when one of the guys I had done some recording for, Chris Sligh, the curly haired, overweight fellow, made it to number 10 before being eliminated. Anyway, overall the show is all hype and mostly a huge waste of time...IMO.

Without the details or larger pictures it's hard to put a comment on it.
However, a fan and a meter are always good upgrades! Perhaps you should consider a ballvalve on the chamber rather than a cleanout cap for quicker venting of the chamber. Then if you want to go further there's camlocks...painting it- whatever you want to do.

The fan helps mix the fuel and air, making the shots more consistant.. It also is a great help with venting out the cannon after each shot.

Yeah, what jook said. Both add a measure of performance in their own way. Go for a couple of gaps centrally located in the chamber and roughly 3-4" from each end of the chamber. The cannon looks fun. My first and foremost concern is you should stand farther back or be shielded when shooting that wicked friggin nail thing. Accidents really do happen to people like us and they cause blood to spill.
Besides that, congrats on upgrading your cannon, thats totally awesome.
Like others have said, go for the 2 gap solution, it adds a bit of bang to the shot for sure. I'll tell you, I made my first cannon with 1 spark gap and no fan, and I thought something was wrong. I was disappointed with the power. Then the guys here said "add 3 spark gaps and a fan silly!" So I did and I was truly shocked at the increase in power.
Have fun dude...oh, grab a laser pen and use it as a laser sight! Why not? It lets you aim at stuff when it get dark outside.

The fan survives just fine. The pressure build up around the fan is equal on all sides so the net is no damage. Re. the 8 inch stuff....it's only available at commercial pipe suppliers and is fairly expensive. You can also order reducer bushings, etc. from McMaster. Are you really sure you want to go down the 8" chamber trail?
And...your shooting your noise cannon at midnight....and you're surprised you're getting complaints?....
If you are going with 8 inch pieces, prepare to bend over and take it like a prisnors first night. My cannon that used 6 inch fittings nearly broke the bank. I remember paying 26 bucks for one elbow and 14 bucks for a coupler. Thank god I didnt have to buy a tee. As you go up in size, the price goes up exponentially.
