TV's, old wood doors, plywood, potatoes and tennis balls...
** Edit **Straight up Tennis balls hung for 10 seconds. Math says it goes up 660 feet and left at over 700FPS
*** Edit *** Video redux... More TV's shooter+target angles+1/8" Plate steel+cinder blocks

Sweet... though it would have been nice to see video of the shooter during firing, recoil must be quite substantial
Also, why stick to such poor projectiles as spuds and tennis balls for damage? Have you tried injecting water into the tennis balls

Mark; I hope you took the flyback from it..never sacrifice a good flyback
Agree on the tennis ball, fill it with lead shot, gravel, stones, flechettes or whatever, pup it with water and freeze. Will do some devastating damage.
Always good to see stuff like this

Empty water bottles are cheaper than tennis balls and hold more water.jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:Sweet... though it would have been nice to see video of the shooter during firing, recoil must be quite substantial

Watch the recoil. Launching a full Gateraid from my 3 inch barrel gave me a bruise and about knocked me on my behind with a 2 inch valve pneumatic. I can't wait to finish the 3 inch valve 200 PSI air cannon.

Sweet video. Nice to see a massive spud flinger chuck those things through TVs and thick wood doors! Fun time for sure.
About loading tennis balls with water and lead shot etc, this is just a guess here but this company is probably not going to make a video doing anything that they wouldn't suggest their customers do...again maybe they would lol. But thats my guess as to why they "only" used normal balls and spuds.
Aside from this footage, I wouldn't doubt if they at least had thoughts about loading it with heavier, more thrash inducing ammunition. I bet that beast could probably hurl some pretty heavy stuff pretty quick.
EDITED: Oh, BRAVO to Sureshot for leaving the barrel end straight. Again this is only my opinion, but it gives the cannon a distinct no nonsense appeal to it. All business and function with everything having a purpose and nothing that doesn't. I like it.
EDITED AGAIN: Crap, NM. I just caught it.

If you do try a filled tennis ball or water bottle, you should seriously consider bracing the rear of the cannon against something substantial. You'll be getting into some fairly hefty recoil world there.
Great damage vid!!

I think the tennis ball is hindering hang time... it was about 20 seconds with a spud on the BL-520. Tennis balls are designed to slow down when moving through the air.
Yes, I am the guy that owns & operates SpudFiles (along with our extremely helpful moderators).
I posted this but the topic seemed to die.

Water filled tennis balls are my favorite for this thing, it is astonishing what simply adding water does.
Yes the 1 pounders left some novices either sitting down or worse, one kid now has a ring cut on his eye the same shape as the red dot scope. Unfortunately he wouldn't let me photo it.
The faux muzzle brake was to counter balance a little, so it has some function. Problem now its too heavy. Its coming off and being replaced with a smaller functional brake.
No flyback transformers we're harmed in the making of this movie.
Thanks for all the posts. Next time we do a shoot I'll be sure to video the shooters to give an idea of recoil.

I'd argue the exact opposite. Schmanman wrecked the SWAT by doing just that.starman wrote:If you do try a filled tennis ball or water bottle, you should seriously consider bracing the rear of the cannon against something substantial. You'll be getting into some fairly hefty recoil world there.
Recoil is best absorbed softly, not by anchoring it solidly. That said, it would be wise to take some precaution against the increased recoil.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?
Yep, drag coef somewhere between .6-.8 and relatively low mass equate to poor hang time. . Straight up shots with spuds and water filled TBs seemed a little out of control for our surroundings.PCGUY wrote:I think the tennis ball is hindering hang time... it was about 20 seconds with a spud on the BL-520. i bet that shaving/burning all the fuzzy stuff off the ball would increase hang timejagerbond wrote:Yep, drag coef somewhere between .6-.8 and relatively low mass equate to poor hang time. . "Just shaving my balls, to increase hang time"
Hmmm...
