*gasp* the Bren is a legend! If the hybrid cartridge works, it's a toss up between replicating it or the BAR. But I also want to make a semi-auto pistol, so many prototypes, so little time!Insomniac wrote:Lol, when I looked at that clip the funny magazine placement made me think 'wtf, is she holding it upside down?' until I saw the collapsed bipod. Had to wiki the gun to investigate

OK, finally got my vid back from the photographer but won't be able to upload to youtube until later. In the meantime I hope this link works.....
Notes:
- 600 fps golf ball meets watermellon.
- Requires quicktime to play.
- It's a 12 MB file. But I guarentee it'll knock your socks off.

D_Hall, Absolutely beautiful. Link works. great resolution, clear, sharp, and the dual cam with the launch and impact is a pro job. Keep the original link up. I like the resolution.
I can't wait for your other video of the little yellow cannon..
Capture of the GB exiting the barrel.

Stunning video, and yes, socks were lost. Can't wait until comparable technology is affordable enough to be viable in a consumer camera.
As a side note, do you know how much that particular camera cost? I know it's probably more than a small house, but I'm interested in seeing the cost-per-fps ratio between it and the Casios, and whether it scales linearly or exponentially jumps in cost.
Also, ditto on keeping the original link up, I'd like to see it in its original, high resolution glory.

I'm not sure how cheaply they can be had as the camera in question is the top of the line model, but it was something like $110k (if I remember office gossip correctly...I'm not a photog so I don't concern myself with them normally).Insomniac wrote:As a side note, do you know how much that particular camera cost? Oh, and... original link
edit: One other comment.... The file in the original link is of a lesser quality than the original file that comes out of the camera. That file is 200 MB and lossless. Obviously, that's not going to play well on the internet so it was compressed...Which results in losses. So as good as the video in the above link is, remember that it isn't as good as the original.

Nothing too special... I bought one of these cheap gorilla-pod knockoffs from dealextreme and it's proving pretty useful... Because it's the SLR size (normal one is cheaper still), it has enough height that it can hold the camera sideways which is very handy for getting stuff to line up in the tiny 1000fps frame.

Haha! Maybe it was just my unco throwing that threw him off?

Impressive caviation on some of them! Have you tried firing through the sides of a plastic container, say a soda bottle?
hectmarr wrote:You have to make many weapons, because this field is long and short life
To be honest, I doubt it would make it through. The projectile is a rough 8mm sphere made of a somewhat soft, lightweight rubbery plastic (which also happens to glow in the dark ) They also have a hole in the middle as they are designed to be used in fishing tackle. (I got a pack of 100 from ALDI's)
The launcher is where the real atrocities start. It's simply a basic combustion with a very long barrel and a very small chamber (Think about the size of a film canister, with the barrel being maybe 30cm long) Also, the barrel is a little too wide for the projectile.
I'm surprised the thing can shoot at all
EDIT: Also, is cavitation technically the correct term? I though cavitation was where the liquid gets to such a low pressure that it forms a bubble of vapour, where in this case it's just a low pressure zone coupled with the momentum of the water causing a bubble of air to be dragged behind the projectile.

Since the projectile is a swiftly moving solid body, I think the term is correctMain Entry: cav·i·ta·tion
Pronunciation: \ˌka-və-ˈtā-shən\
Function: noun
Etymology: cavity + -ation
Date: 1895
the formation of partial vacuums in a liquid by a swiftly moving solid body (as a propeller) or by high-intensity sound waves
pedant
