I don't think there's much contest between this fan and the generic kind you get from Radioshack/Best Buy/etc. This thing draws 0.9 amps and puts out about 87cfm of airflow (although neither have been confirmed by myself).
I'm still not sure whether two 9v's in series can even source 0.9 amps continuously, so I guess I need to get a better multimeter (step #1 for a lot of things) and check.
Anyways, here's a simple video. Should be clear enough...

I have actually had experience with this fan. The fan actually sometimes outputs more than the rated 87cfm. The fan comes in two sizes, 80mm and 92mm. the 92mm outputs 119cfm.
Both fans however are thicker than your every day fan's of the same size. normal fans are around 25mm thick.. these vantec tornadoes are around 38mm thick. so plan for that if you are going to use one.
They also sound like vacuum cleaners and are very very loud.
On a side note.. there is also the Scythe ULTRA KAZE, which is like the vantec tornado.. but 120mm and produces 133cfm.

Yeah, 80mm seems about the maximum size most people use (for 4" chambers), but of course with larger you can use 120mm.

Thats what i'm packing in my cannon and I LOVE IT. It mixes instantly and vents faster than sh*t. I use 8 AA batteries for the fan alone. Being a 12v fan it gets the full juice its supposed to straight from the 8 AA's (1.5v x 8 = 12v) and they actually last a long time. Good job and congrats to stepping up to the big leagues! Now you blow just as hard as anyone else here

Power Source: 12V Gel-Cell (more than capable of sourcing an amp or more)
Peak current (startup): ~1.6 amperes
Running current: ~0.95 amperes
Power Source: A pair of 9 volt cells, in series, run through a 12V regulator
Peak current (startup): ~1.1 amperes
Running current: ~0.72 amperes
