177 czech spring air rifle conversion to mini combustable
I was gifted a couple of broken down 177 cal air rifles... the tiny little czech plinker i am considering gutting out the spring/piston assembly and making it a mini combustible.
Any design thoughts would be appreciated this is only at the 'thought' stage.
I was thinking with the compression tube just blocking the back end with a spark plug and using a spark igniter wired for ignition, place at the trigger bed so the trigger falls back onto the switch...for fuel as a quick fix i can just squirt or syringe measure tiny amounts of butane gas lighter down the air exit port... with a slug in the breech it will seal the old piston chamber.
load, squirt, close, aim, fire.
Thoughts?

Doubt it will make enough pressure to get the pellet out the barrel.

idk how much pressure a normal springer makes but im guessing 250-350psi, a normal combustion makes around 100psi.

A cheap springer makes around 1000PSi and up, a high end springer is more like 2000PSI and up.
It'll push the pellet out, but it won't have much power. Try to fix the springer mech on one, and diesel it. Put a drop of diesel or kerosine behind the pellet or in the chamber, and fire as normal. It only needs a drop, more won't ignite.
A link on dieseling, they don't recommend it, but it works very well. http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=449640

Agreed, power will be excrement... as a 1x combustion - but if you go hybrid, that's a different story

Wow wasn't expecting that.Zeus wrote:A cheap springer makes around 1000PSi and up, a high end springer is more like 2000PSI and up.
Dam one guy brought a .117 to camp on the long weekend it was the first springer iv ever shot i was gonna do it but forgot now im regretting it. Probably lucky i didn't though its over 20 years old..Zeus wrote:and diesel it. Put a drop of diesel or kerosine behind the pellet or in the chamber, and fire as normal. do a search on davidsfarm and bb guns. he fills it with acyelene and oxygen from a cutting torch. also people put oil on the skirts of pellets to have it combust.
do you have pictures of the pellet guns? ive been looking for a slavia. if you still have any extras lol

I'm sorry, but davidsfarm is terminally stupid, pants on head retarded, with the IQ of a dead lizard.
Acetylene detonates under pressure, it doesn't burn. Compressing it with oxygen puts shrapnel into your face very quickly.
Enter JSR with a blown up airgun picture, I couldn't find a picture of one where the plunger tube exploded.

I've never seen pictures or even heard of one actually turning into a grenade, but I have seen springers that have been ruined because the compression tube blew out like it had been inflated slightly.Zeus wrote:Enter JSR with a blown up airgun picture, I couldn't find a picture of one where the plunger tube exploded.
Worth pointing out at this point that some airguns were designed to diesel.

I've seen a couple where the darwinian owner fueled it with oxygen and a fuel, it actually killed the owner if I recall correctly.jackssmirkingrevenge wrote: I've never seen pictures or even heard of one actually turning into a grenade, but I have seen springers that have been ruined because the compression tube blew out like it had been inflated slightly.
But I can't remember for the life of me where I saw it.

Ah, you mean these - but they were pneumatics filled with oxygen.Zeus wrote:I've seen a couple where the darwinian owner fueled it with oxygen and a fuel, it actually killed the owner if I recall correctly.

If I recall correctly the Darwin Award candidates involved were seriously injured but survived.

No, I've seen those, this was another set of a springer which was dieseled with oxygen. I "think" it was an airgun forum, but I can't be sure.
Would the adibatic heating from the gases compressing between the pellet and valve cause that? Including the steel oxidising rapidly and lubricant igniting naturally.
