How exactly do they work? I understand the sear and trigger part, but how does the hammer valve mechanism work in a bolt action sniper? I would like to make my own at some point, so this is kinda vital for me to know before I start. I looked around google, but as always no websites have keywords so I didn't find anything.

Rather than rehash everything once more, there are pictures, descriptions and some diagrams in this thread.

Did you see the picture of the crosman on the second page of that thread? because the picture shown there is typical of all co2 hammer valves, like the ones in sniper style rifles.
If that doesn't answer your question I really don't see what you are looking for.

I have seen those before. What I would like to know is how the airsoft companies make it so that their valves are inline.

Gas airsoft sniper rifles have a hammer valve on the magazine, it's the same as pistols. If there's a way to post pictures straight from an iPhone I'll post a pic of my pistols hammer mechanism and valve.

I know how the pistol mechanisms work, but there are a few bolts that have the gas chamber stored directly in them. Those are the ones that I would like to know about.

Do you mean cartridges? Like the airsoft M200? That gun uses a gas mag also, the cartridges just hold the BB.

If you "know" something about this, then give us a place to start looking.warhead052 wrote:I know how the pistol mechanisms work, but there are a few bolts that have the gas chamber stored directly in them. Those are the ones that I would like to know about.
Perhaps if you were to state WHICH rifles it is used in that might help.

It looks to me like the gas chamber, bolt and hammer are all just rolled into one part here, think of a normal hammer valve, then picture instead of the hammer hitting itself against the gas chamber, picture the gas chamber hitting itself into the hammer ect... if that makes sense.

Interesting.
Just a wild arse guess, but it's probably similar to the valve mechanism used in the Crosman 357 (and 1077 IIRC) or the Drozd bb machine gun...among others.
An o-ring and washer go on the other end of the spring. The o-ring seals the stem to the body.
