I think I know what you're talking about here, I've felt the same way before in a general sense. I think al-xg summed up the situation quite well, you just have to find the right person to live with. The majority of girls I meet would put me in a similar state of mind to JSR's; it wouldn't take me long to realise the rat-race is a futile one and all the time, effort and money used trying to pursue a girl is usually not worth it. Every now and then, however, I stumble across a girl who could actually be a suitable match. Over my life time, this is maybe half a dozen girls at most and for a majority of them I never got to know them for long enough to know how things would turn out in a long relationship. At the moment I'm not too bothered if I end up with a family or not, I just know that if it is the former it will have to be with a girl who doesn't drive me insanejackssmirkingrevenge wrote: It summarises my position certainly. I'm not sure I would be diagnosed as a dysfunctional sociopath for holding it, but I see it as deeply rational. Whether it is "naive realism" or not is ironically a matter of opinion
As a man I have my "needs", I'm not willing to resort to violent coercion to satisfy them, nor am I comfortable with a direct monetary exchange (though not above it, and very pleasant it can be too) so deeper social interaction is somewhat of a necessary evil. As I grow older, the satisfaction I get from the results of playing this game vis a vis the effort I put into it decreases progressively to the extent that I will most likely lose interest altogether. I also note that this leaves me with much more disposable income and time to spend on things I genuinely enjoy.

Finally some vague strides towards understanding
I'll wager you'll invent a perpetual motion machine before you meet her, but good luck anywayI just know that if it is the former it will have to be with a girl who doesn't drive me insane

I still don't get carbid schieten...
They build a cannon...with the sole purpose of making as much noise as possible..
and they wear earprotection...
That's like...
painting a picture and putting a bag over your head when it's time to see the finished result..?

Have you ever been near it?I still don't get carbid schieten...
Here we have some 7000 liter oxy-acetylene cannons, when they're fired you get a huge kick in the chest, and it is deafening even with double hearing protection.
It isn't just about the sound they make
A few years ago some guy made a cannon wich was able to break windows a few hundred meters away..
not unlike this;

But then with optimized oxy-acetylene instead of plain boring acetylene-air
