BTB's PCP pistol

Well...as I announced earlier, my pump-pneumatic has been cut short and given a new life as a PCP pistol.

It's not yet finished ( looks like it was salvaged from a bombcrater...)
but fully functional..

I decided to keep it a single shot repeater.


The Girandoni style sidemounted magazine was removed.
I need to acces the breech in case of a jam and I didn't like the look of the tube mag.

I could do a cilinder or revolver style but I really don't think it'll look right.
I'd have to place the cilinder too far forward for it to work.
It feels like a desperate attempt to make it look like a firearm...wich is completely unnessecary..

On top of that...I think the lever action was kinda smart and I wouldn't like to destroy it.
I'd rather start all over and keep this one like it is.

Swinging open the triggerguard exposes the breech...I just pop in a roundball from my pocket.Works well.

The rough unfinished look gives you guys plenty to comment about , I'm sure...

NICE how much psi can it hold

I'll be using it up to 1000psi.

The fridge compressor gets me about that number but I'll be swithing to CO2 12 gram bulbs soon.
I've got the adapter and it fits inside the pressuretube.
All I need to do is move the checkvalve back and drill and tap the some holes to hold it in.

So..it;s intended to be used at around 850 psi.
Considering it is all thickwalled seemless pipe it could hold a lot more.

it fires lead roundballs, 10mm.

I love it even more knowing it fires 10mm lead ball bearings.

Nah...it'll shoot through both sides of a steel can tough.

The longer leveraction version I cut down to make this did.
With a longer barrel-- but also with less pressure.

Holy sh*t! It's like a badass crosman 2240!
Actually, besides the lever action, it's kinda what I'm working towards with my personal 2240. Congrats on doing it from scratch!

I'm thinking I will not finish this version...just put some wood on the grip and keep it like it is.
FUBAR post-apocaliptic lookin' ..

I'm gathering the stuff to make a very clean one at the moment, basically Crosman style, although I haven't decided on flipping the over-under to allow a grip-magazine and semi auto.

A lot of work that won't pay off with my shooting habits..( once a year??)
but at the same time an engineering challenge...and a first.

I've fitted the 12 gram adapter into it and sprayed it flat black in a hurry..
And I've increased the flow by about 200 %..Just filed out the opening and unrestricted travel on the poppet-plunger-piston thingy..
That's all I've done since last time.
Still no grip on it.

Power is amazing though on a 12 gram bulb btw.
It'll pretty much pancake a roundball.
The shot felt ( not very objective I know) more powerful than Old Shat' .

Unfortunately on the second testshot the ( counterbalance) o-ring tore up...something I had expected to happen much earlier as it wasn't very good to start with...I got better ones and fitted the piston with two instead of one..
I need to keep tha pressure off that one side!!

I haven't had a chance to get new bulbs so I only did two shots.
Well..I didn't really feel the urge to...

I want to build a new/cleaner one as I'm not content with it as it is.
So for the time being I don' t even feel like getting CO2...

Opening it up to fix the O-ring problem emptied my last bulb.
Without the O-ring the valve is near impossible to knock open.

On the contrary.It's supersmooth and the hammer is easy to pull.
I can cock it singlehandedly, with my thumb.

I'm still not sure where to go with this project.
I got some 18mm or so smooth I.D. thickwalled steel pipe I would like to use as a barrel.
A 12 gauge ( empty/used) shell fits it exactly.

Maybe I'll just use that, a PCP reservoir, the CB-hammervalve and Old Shat's stock to make one hell of an airgun.Not sure yet though.

As my wife was so kind as to share a cup of coffee with my laptop...I'm currently restricted to using the old one.That is..if my kids or wife aren't occupying it.
This old one is pretty polluted and slow...plus I've lost the camera cable.
I won't be uploading (pancake-) pictures any time soon.

Sorry boys..
Some rough parts just bothered me.
For instance, I had to shorten the main tube to allow acces to the 12 gram adaptercap.No way of tightening it if it is housed completely inside of a tube...

You guys got to me..I decided to do some work on it.

Before my fix yesterday the main tube was cut short, but not very straight.. So I fixed that.

Another thing I hated was the gap between the sideplates and the pressuretube.
I decided to fill that up.

I want the structure and design of the gun to look clean, the finish can be rough though..like a well made -but worn afterwards- kinda look.

I finished bondo, sanding and paint yesterday.
Unfortunately the clearcoat I used dissolved the paint partially so I´ll have to redo that, hopefully today.

One thing is still unclear and eats at me in the back of my mind.
Did the O-ring tear because of freezing issues???
Maybe...
If that was the reason then CO2 is not even an option...

oh....and my welder died on me...Haven´t checked if it´s fixable.
