Airsoft Idea and Progress

Hello everyone,

My plan is to make an airsoft gun out of a paintball marker.

I don't really like the way the metal braided pipe runs from the bottom of the gun to the bottom of the pistol grip and then to the HPA tank. I'd prefer to have my tank at the front of my marker (like the Daystate Wolverine air rifle). So when I received my paintball marker, my curiosity got the best of me and I started checking out how it works, I came to look at that metal braided hose and wondered what threading it takes. It happens to take 1/8" BSP male and a smile grew on my face.

I got a remote line a month or two earlier. I removed the hose from the part that screws onto the HPA tank and it was 1/8" BSP female.

So the marker itself takes 1/8" BSP female and the part that screws into the tank is also 1/8" BSP female. I need a 1/8" BSP male to male fitting. And it so happened to be used for airguns. So I ordered it. I feared that the screw knob on the HPA tank connector would hit the trigger guard restricting me from removing the pressure on the pin of the HPA tank.

I received my 1/8" BSP male to male fitting today and found that it was a couple of mm's off. I stuck my 48 CU tank on and it didn't touch the barrel (not recommended since it makes the whole thing damn heavy). I would recommend a 13 CI tank or slightly larger.

So now I plan to use my airsoft barrel. I am going to glue/epoxy the barrel into the current paintball barrel. I'll also epoxy a 6mm OD pipe to the bolt so that it pushes the next BB into the breech of the barrel. And machine a groove onto the bolt so it accepts an O-ring, this will create a seal for the air to push the BB through the barrel.

I can get a few 13 CI HPA tanks and swap them around when I'm running low. Not forgetting they are portable and can be easily be filled unlike having a bulging 48 CU tank in your bag on your way to the scuba diving shop.

I cut off the bit where the hopper attaches, I just need to get a Tippmann adjustable stock and a Scope.

Are you sure? 1/8 NPT is typical, it has 27 threads per inch as opposed to 28 on the BSP.

So now I plan to get a rifled .22 barrel. I am going to glue/epoxy the rifled barrel into the current paintball barrel. So that it near enough butts up against the bolt. And machine a groove onto the bolt so it accepts an O-ring, this will create a seal for the air to push the pellet through the barrel.

How will you be reloading exactly though? Manually fiddling through the hopper port placing the pellet in the breech?

Hmm I'm not too sure if it's NPT or BSP. The adapter threading is BSP though. It did screw on quiet smoothly.
I'd love to do that but it's against the law to have a full automatic air rifle here in the UK.

... or even a semi-auto of decent power, good luck trying to get your hand on an FX Monsoon or its ilk.

Interesting project but personally, assuming you're staying below the 12 ft-lb legal limit, I don't see the benefit of this project over buying a cheap and cheerful PCP like this: http://www.solware.co.uk/air-pistol-air ... 4-10.shtml

I feel like making it just for the fun of it so it won't be very powerful. I have a Brocock Contour for a powerful rifle (well sub 12 ft-lb).

Hmm I'm having second thoughts of using a rifled barrel... I guess I'll have to use my W700 sniper airsoft barrel.

If you're building your own, might as well make it shoot something that a conventional air rifle can't, like say marbles or batteries or what have you

With a bit of thought you could make it feed 0.22" pellets too.

I did some research and it turns out that semi automatic pellet guns (rifled barrel) are also illegal. The law in the UK concerning air guns are troublesome. It's funny that you can get paintballs with rifling grooves already on the casing itself.

I think you'll find that most UK members of this forum don't reall pay much attention to legal matters, as long as you stay sensible and don't attract unnecessary attention to yourself you are unlikely to get into trouble.

True, I don't plan to go out hunting with it, it will be used mainly for garden plinking.

Oh I should have researched it before commenting.
