Hi guys,
question about this type of valve:
I get that the hammer knocks the valve forward and air/co2 goes around the valve seat then up to the barrel, but is there anything stopping air from leaking out around the rod that the hammer strikes? is it simply a matter of the air taking the path of least resistance, the clearance around the rod being small enough that any air that does leak is negligible? or is there something used to seal this rod?
Assistance much appreciated.

In the Crosman 22xxand 13xx valve, there is no stem to valve body seal, close-ish clearance is used to control leakage. Somewhat like trying to pour a bucket of water through a pin hole.
Other makers do incorporate an oring either on the stem itself or set into the body in the bearing area found at the rear of the valve body.
