Indeed, it's a great design!
This design was my first pneumatic (my very first launcher launcher was a simple combustion). I had to modify some fittings to accomodate what the local Home Despot had in stock but it went together well and fires well. I added a pressure gauge and noted two things:
1) I can get to 100psi with a bicyle pump and some sweat. That's enough to send spuds far enough, fast enough to be scary good fun.
2) The sprinkler solenoid in my version doesn't dump air fast enough. There's always a few psi left on the gauge. If I trip the solenoid a second time, I get a little fart.
Once, in a period of extreme dumb@$$ I left the ramrod in by accident, someone else tripped the switch. The ramrod whistled past my thumb and into the garage ceiling. I hate it when that happens.

I built this design, but the sprinkler valve won't work. The electronics are fine, but i noticed on the actuator that it said 24V AC 60hz, and if i'm not mistaken 9v batteries are DC, lol. Did I just get the wrong sprinkler valve?

What brand and model sprinkler valve was it?
