I would like to hear your opinions on this highly debatable topic.

I've been planning on going to West Point for a while now and my friend keeps shoving "Marines are better" crap at me.

I think the bottomline is that they are very DIFFERENT and each NECESSARY to the US military. Neither is better than the other.

almost every one says the marines but when it comes to military acadamies i don't think it matters as much. at the acadamies arn't you supose to make you an officer and and one of the reasons the army is liked less is the bueracratic dictatorship like system so maybe you'll get to push around the grunts more, but this is a very crude assumtion

also the marines started as the guys who had guns on the old wooden naval ships so the marines were the ones shooting when the ships got close later they became the expendionanry force that was transported by the navy's ships as technology advanced there became better ways of getting around rather than riding the navy's ships so their pretty much a separate branch

Well, it really depends on just what you're wanting to do in the service. When it comes to officers and such, I'm not sure which does what better. As for straight-up service, the Marines kick butt. Their boot camp is longer and harder, and the average marine trainee breaks at least one bone during camp. Though the Army does have Green Beret...

I think it would be fun to join the airforce.

I also like where you can get to go to school for it. Colorado.

If you want to be shot, join the marines. If you want to be killed join the army.

the truth is almost all branches of the military take advantage of enlistees academies ans rotc programs are the smartest way in. the army is very sneaky with enlistees but the marnies are more honest and tell you that they will kick your @$$ unlike the army which give a lot of misleading promises

I would say join the marines if you want to be better prepared and more toughned up... But in the end its basically the same. I do agree though with iknowmy3tables that the army tricks you more in making you think its so great wer as the Marines are more straight forward.

The marines have to be better, they always send them in before everybody else and they have more Special Forces and Specialties.

actully the army has more elite units and specail forces and "every marine a rifleman" so everone must be well trained with the basic footsolider/rifleman stuff, so no one specalizes in a specific area only.
but in a way the marines might qualify as elite. unless your talking about the britsh marines which is very small but one of europe's finest

my uncle went into the marines, spent some time in Iraq. He sent us this little video of boot camp, and man it looked hard! But it was kind of funny watching the drill seargent's veins pop ot of thier necks when they yell.
Yeah, my uncle said the marines is a lot tougher, and ARMY stands for "Aren't Really Marines Yet". he said they normally ended up cleaning up all the messes that the army left behind.
